This is kinda long, but bear with me, k?

This is so annoying. I had one bad year due to personal issues, and I was stupid in thinking I could handle a full course load for both terms, but ultimately did horribly. The problem is that the year I did bad in was not one ACADEMIC year (Sept-April) but from Jan-Dec, so that the bad grades affected two terms from seperate academic years (term 2 of second year, and term 1 of third year). So my overall GPA plummetted, and I did a 2nd bachelor's degree for 2 more years. Both degrees were science majors, I took overload courses in every year after my "bad" year, took summer courses, all in science and got straight A+.

So, basically, after the "bad"year, including summer terms, I had about 9 semesters of straight A+. But, my overall GPA is only 3.48. My science GPA is 3.53. Is being 0.02 points away from a 3.5 GPA going to hurt me? Will schools look at the significant improvement I had? My MCAT was 13,13,14. Where do you think I should apply? I had dreams of Harvard or an Ivy, but because of 1 bad year, I doubt I'll make it. I'll still apply to the Ivies, just to try, so there will be no "what ifs" later on. Just need some advice from my peers on what you think my chances are/where I should apply. Will my high MCAT's make up for a lower GPA?

Thanks for your advice - my premed advisor sucks

There are lots of threads like yours... Do a search. People will basically tell you that you have a good chance to get into any medical school.

you are worried about 2 HUNDREDTHS of a decimal point?

Look. You seem like you have good reasons of why you didnt do so hot. A lot of us dont do so hot too due to our own reasons. Most of us however do fine even with the occasional periods of bad grades.

What you seem to be forgetting is that you have a 40 on your MCAT. A 40. I dont know how many times I could repeat this...but yes a 40. That is an extraordinary score. A lot of people with 4.0s can't score a 40 on the MCAT. You worry too much about your GPA.

You doubt you might make an Ivy? If you have awesome ECs, LORs, research etc...then you should make for an extremely competitive applicant. The MCAT is the great equalizer. Now with this I say apply anywhere and everywhere. The highest of GPAs and MCATs cannot guarantee you anything...whether it is an acceptance at an Ivy or an acceptance at an unranked school. So apply to your dream schools, then reasonable schools and some safety schools. A good mix will be the best way for you to optimize your chances of getting an acceptance. 😉

Wish you luck...

damn...a 40 😱
