Any DO that has a masters program with mental health focus

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There's really no reason to do it, assuming you want to do pyschiatry. It would just be 1 year or more of tuition that really won't make much of a difference.

I suppose.

If you want the education I don't see that its a waste of time at all. Knowledge is what you value it at. I want to get a dual degree with an MPH. I want to take the extra classes in bio statistics and epidemiology ect. It satisfies my hunger for knowledge and will give me more experience for pursuing a job in public health (CDC, or community health ect) so its worth the extra tuition and time to me. Sure you can do these things without that dual degree, but that's not the only reason I want it. I genuinely want to learn that material as well.

Medical school is, mostly, self study. You don't need to spend 40k for someone to lecture you from a couple of textbooks. Just go buy the books and read them. Moreover, there are neuroscience tracked pyschiatry residencies, as well as clinical research tracked residencies. They are 5 years instead of 4, but at least you get paid, instead of paying, for the extra year.

I can definitely see how an MPH would help you for those career paths. Quite a few of my classmates have MPHs or are currently doing the dual DO/MPH track.

Btw, I think you mean to say etc, not ect.

yeah you're right, my bad

Complete waste of time and money if you want to become a psychiatrist. You're much better off doing a psychiatry residency followed by a neuropsychiatry fellowship since you're interested in the neuroscience of mental health.
