I'm writing in response to the thread "I JUST GOT VERIFIED!!!"

I submitted 7/9, almost ten weeks ago, and nothing, no red x's or anything. I've read posts by people who submitted even earlier stuck in the same situation. Yet some people who submitted in August are already verified?

Does anyone know what's going on? I've called AMCAS in recent weeks and have gotten both a denial that they verify out of order as well as an "I can't personally tell you what criteria is used since I'm not the one verifying applications."

It's just frustrating to know that most med schools are probably only aware of the delay. Their advice is to wait, but while I wait others who submitted their AMCAS well after me are having their applications reviewed.

Any thoughts on this issue would be appreciated.

Hey... I submitted June 24, and while I've had red X's for some time now, I still haven't received a "you've been verified" e-mail. I did get an e-mail saying that they couldn't verify me because my GPA was calculated wrong (which, by the way, wasn't true--- all AMCAS did was change the classification of my AP classes from high school). They told me to recertify/submit, so I did that, and I haven't heard anything since. They didn't send my unverified app to any schools until 9/4, and from what I've heard, other students who submitted their AMCAS in July had unverified apps going out in early Aug. (This meant, for example, that I didn't hear from Cornell until 9/6 while others heard from them in early August). So... my thought on this is that AMCAS is randomly selecting applications to verify and send. Actually, what ever happened to the idea of demanding half our money back? Is anybody seriously considering that? (I'd like to...)

I submitted extremely early and still no verification.

I am not worried about this anymore as med schools seem to understand it is out of my hands.

I have gotten reassurances from schools that they will go with the unverified apps that AMCAS has provided them and that they will even accept me conditionally, pending final AMCAS verification.

Do not worry. There are bigger things to worry about at a time like this.

Cheers

Go to the thread entitled "Letter to the President of AMCAS," copy the letter there and send it to Jordan Cohen demanding a partial refund. That's what a number of us are doing.

submitted 7.7 -- still no Xs, change of button, etc....i called amcas and the guy told me for a week there was a glitch in their computer system and people in aug. were being verfied...he was basically like "tough, there's nothing we can do about it now"...apparently they fixed the problem...but that doesnt change the fact that hundreds of people who submitted their app. in 2 months after me have already been verified..

stanford wont even send me a secondary because they dont have my application...when i told the guy this, his exact words were, "well, we told all the schools that if they dont use our unverified apps, they wont have enough seats to fill their class even by next fall"

so basically, they are not confident that ALL the apps will be verified even by next year... 😡 🙁 😱

i was so unnerved and angry i didnt know what else to say..i muttered something and hung up...hope he didnt get mad and put me to the back of the line 🙁

I submitted on 7/5. I was fortunate to receive the redx's, verification email, change of notification on 9/11 (dreadful day). I remember feeling the way you guys feel, I called them everyday from the 6 week point on, I begged an pleaded (SCAMCAS has robbed me of pride); I don't know if this helped but I did get verified. This may be academic as it would appear to me as if the first round of interviews went to people who were verified early; the interview invitations have now slowed down considerably. I think it is time to contemplate how that organization has screwed many people. Do not let AMCAS f up your future. If your, or my, time is next year, so mote it be! Hang in there

I submitted on 6/27 and not a thing from amcas. its kinda frustrating when all my friends have now been verified. i even had a friend verified who submitted in august. i call them and they used to say within a week or two they will have it done for me. now when i call they just say that they will not give a date, that they are working on verification in the order that they were recieved. so what happens after they tell me that - another friend who submitted in august now has the red x's. two big thumbs down to amcas. now i sit and wait, hopefully they will finish within the next 412 weeks.

Check this out!! I submitted 6/28 and had not red X's or anything until two weeks ago. When I checked my app that next Monday (since I don't trust AAMCAS)my X's were gone. I immediately called the schools to see if they had recieved my verified app and they said no. That evening I called AAMCAS only to hear the "specialist" tell me some totally confusing story how "the fact that my X's are gone does not matter in the verification process". What? As I calmly tell her my frustrations with AAMCAS, she begins to get defensive and rude. At times she even sighed loudly to let me know of her disapproval, very unprofessional. Anyway, this is the fifth time I have called AAMCAS and each time I hear a different story about why early submitters are not being processed. This is so frustating because AAMCAS does not "truly" understand what we are going through. None of the specialists have applied to medical school so they don't understand the utter importance of applying early. Therefore when you ask them questions regarding your file (since you're confused from the many stories you have heard from them) they are quick to act like we are idiots. Argghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

July 5th...

No red X's, no button changes, no verification

I gave up calling them a long time ago.

Submitted 6/30, no red X's no nothing. I have been calling AMCAS frequently in the last 10 days or so to hold their feet to the fire. I grilled supervisor Don last time. I got him to admit clearly that the software system they use has completely broken down, that they are doing verifications at random by hand, and that they don't expect the bulk of verifications to be done until Christmas time. He assured me that he had designated my application as "PRIORITY". He swears that priority applications will get processed first but warned me that the priority stack itself is very large. He said it will probably take 3 more weeks. Of course all of this is utterly nonsensical and bull****. They must think that we are as dumb as they are. What the hell is the problem????????

Damn. We need to do something, but what??

Submitted 6/28 and I just got the infamous red X's this morning. How do I know when AMCAS is done with the verification process on my app? Do the X's disappear? Do I just wait for an email?

submitted 6/29 and nothing.

Wouldn't you think that they could all agree on one story to tell us? Don't they all work for the same company?

I was told two and a half weeks ago that it should be done in 7-10 days; a week ago that it would be done within a week; and today that it might not be done for two weeks. Is one person verifying the apps? The guy I talked to gave me the priority list story and then said that the reason August submitters were verified first is because the computer sorted the apps by AMCAS ID number instead of date submitted. Grrr.

This would be confusing too, because if you registered with AMCAS early (thus getting an "earlier" AMCAS ID), and submitted in August, then you are in good standing.

Does anyone know if med schools are aware of the fact that applications are being verified out of order?

I know med schools are angry already, and that's just because of the delays. Since AMCAS seems to respond moreso to pressure from the med schools than us applicants, I wonder if making med schools aware of this fact will help the situation. They might put more pressure on AMCAS or at the very least be more sympathetic to our situation.

I work down the hall from the office of admissions at one med school and was thinking of letting them know what's going on. I've already talked to them once before, way back in early July when the problems were just starting.

If anyone else can give any input to med schools, I think letting them know would be helpful. Getting the word out may be the best course of action at this point.

Anyone else agree?

it doesnt matter for medical schools if applications are being verified out of order....

in the past, if students submitted applications at an earlier date...it was to your benefit.....however, at this point, med schools are more interested in "getting verifed applications"....since they don't have a lot! so ironically it doesnt matter this year anymore...and AMCAS isn't really "breaking the law or anything"
