Basically I want to know how many freshman/newbies there are in this forum...
Also if there are any fellow upperclassmen that had already known they wanted to pursue a career in medicine feel free to share why.....

So I would like to greet you with a couple questions:

1) Your a freshman, how do you know right off the bat that you want to a Doctor (let alone an Osteopathic Doc.)?

2) Do you have any support from friends, family, school etc.. (Oh and if you don't... Forget about them, when they doubt you just push harder.. 😉..)

3)Are you overwhelmingly nervous about everything, even though you've only just started and prob your first year will only consist of you taking 2 pre-reqs at the most..?

4) And what led you to this point in your life, what pivotal change occurred within the last couple years that made you decide "I want to be a Doc.!!"

"Curiosity's your only hope when you think you know it all"..lol....🙄

I can't imagine anyone knowing exactly what they want to do when they're freshmen.

Why are you encouraging them? There's about 1,493 of them in the pre-allopath forum...they're all yours.

I just wish these forums were more focused on those actually trying to get into schools rather than those who are wondering how they should prepare for the SAT.

I'm not exactly trying encourage them, even though that is what I actually might have accomplished. I mean I don't really care what they do... I'm just trying to mix up the threads a little, not that I don't appreciate the seriousness of this forum.. 😉

You better start to recognize the seroiusness 😡

I can imagine a freshman wanting to go into medicine or to dedicate his career to helping others. I don't understand how he would choose between DO/MD though.

Everyone wants to be a doctor when they're a freshman in college. A better question is who still wants to be a doctor when they're a sophmore, junoir, or senoir?

yea lol...after taking my first math undergrad instit. class i definetely began more realistically in evaluating my possibilities LOL -_- anyhow, yup, there r alot of us on pre-o forum also instead of pre-a, but most of us still wondering where we will land, hopefully one of these 2 =D

Im a definite "newbie". Im a Bio major taking many pre-med designed courses like the basic bio's, inorganic and organic chem, biochem, micro, physics, calc, cell bio, A&P1/2. Blah blah. I was originally going to school to become a science teacher, then when I was taking classes with pre-meds I decided I wanted to become a PA. Then when the biggest question they ask PA applicants is why a PA and not a doctor I couldnt give an honest answer. Well, I guess because I dont want to owe a quarter of a million on grad day. Then when I became an EMT I decided that I wanted to take medicine as far as I could. Im not the greatest student and am recovering from a few bad semesters before I returned to college (USMC tour.) I really admire the philosophy of D.O.s and think that way too many wanna-be docs think MD is the only degree out there. So DO suits me the best, in my opinion. I have a better chance of getting into a medical college that I would prefer anyway. They are more lenient in a sense to my past poor performance and look at the whole student and their likelihood of becoming a good doc. Im improving every semester and love being an EMT and using my knowledge to help others. Yes Im nervous of admissions, and of MCAT scores. Id hate to have to spend more time retaking courses to prove I can handle med school. But if that is the price to pay than so be it. You cant be a Marine without bootcamp, you cant be a D.O. without the pre-reqs, MCATs and a good interview and extra curriculars(spelling stinks.) Id rather sacrifice the time and effort now than live with regrets of just not trying hard enough or settling for less. Everyone has their calling I suppose, if this is yours newbies (like me) dont stress out about what is down the road, stress about the next chem exam, and the bio one after that. When the MCATs are approaching stress over that. Learn as much as you can. Its the only way to get through the mass amount of knowledge you will need to collect in this limited time to we have to learn it.
