Ive taken a long hiatus from work due to some personal issues but the time has come for me to re-enter the work force. I went to renew my license and realized i'm really behind on my CE's. I can finish the required amount in a month but was wondering if i could still renew my license in the meantime.

"A minimum of 45 hours is required for every three-year registration period. The majority (at least 23) of the hours must be from live courses. " - NY

Also hoping someone could clarify this 3 year registration period for me. Do i have to count 3 year periods from the time i graduated or is it just 3 years back from the month i'm renewing. TIA.

Sounds like you are supposed to complete 45 CE hours for each registration period (including your first one) and those hrs must be obtained within that period (you cannot carry back or carry forward hours)

It would seem to make sense that renewing just starts a new registration period (aside from whatever other requirements you need to meet to renew if a license expired)

So, not from New York, however...

I have never found a BOP that was happy about you finishing CE's after actually telling them you had them done. Technically you are certifying that you have completed the CE's when you renew. When you renew, CE's obtained after that date count toward your next renewal.

Additionally, it looks like that CE's have to be obtained in the last 12 months since you let your license lapse and have not been practicing. So if you have any older than that, it doesn't look like they count.

As an example, Nevada's CE cycle is Nov 1 of one odd year to Oct 31 of the next odd year (e.g., Nov 1, 2019 to Oct 31, 2021). I don't think they are that picky if you submitted payment to renew prior to Oct 31, 2021 and you happened not to have completed all 30 at the time of payment

Nevada does care about the in-state law requirement (only applicable to those living within the borders irrespective of practicing area) though in that cycle. You have to had finished it when you apply.

Op, if you fraudulently certify in NY, you risk them reconciling with NABP and then really dinging you.
