I've got bad summer allergies, but my fear is that if I take claritin before the exam, I may become too jittery, as it has a tendency to have the same effect as caffein, although instead of making things clearer (which caffein tends to do for me), it may just get my head spinning (speaking from experience)...Although claritin sems to be the only antihistamine that works for me (I've tried most other major brands).

Any ideas?

I have REALLY bad allergies... along with bad asthma....
What I have been taking for the past month is non drowsy aerius.... so far it seems to be working great. The allergy relief isnt the best (claritin works better for me...), but my scores on tests have actually gone up since I started taking it (because of studying more... not the pills I'm sure....). It doesn't appear to be causing my head to spin or anything...

Nope. Just taking regular Claritin extra, non drowsy - no decongestant.

Hmm, maybe I'll try aerius. Never heard of it though. Is it new?

"Allegra" is non-drowsy and doesnt make me jittery either. they have three doses 60, 90 120 mg. usually the 60 is enough, the 90 is good for severe attacks, and the 120... well that will tranquilize a horse.

the most important thing to remmember is what psychologists refer to as the "state dependant theory of memory retrieval" which states that your body should be in the same chemical environment during test day as it is for studying. What does this mean? well if your going to start taking medication, consult with your doctor and do so about a week before test day. That way you wont be introducing a new chemical to your system on test day that may interfere with your memory retrieval.

Notice its only called a THEORY, so........ but then again ive heard of the theory of evolution so......

i really dislike saying: so........

Good Luck on test day, I am sure youll do well

:luck:

Thanks,

The only problem with that theory and claritin is that if I take it too many days in a row , then my body starts building up a resistance to it and I have to take a break from it for awhile, otherwise it just won't work as well.

Coffee on the other hand....

I also heard that it might be a good idea to study in the room that you are taking the exam in. Since I have access to it, I might start doing that today.

Cheers
PS:
I just checked the type of claritin I was using with my pharmacy, and apparently it was the one with decongestant, so I think I'll try some of the others, maybe aerius...
