Hey guys,
Just found this forum and love it...wish I had found it coupla years ago.....Anyways, got interview at Indiana U. this coming tuesday so I was wondering if anybody could give me some good advice that can help me ace the interview... This is my first one so far... so really looking forward to it, but kinda nervous as well.....Any routine questions would be helpful..

Thanx in advance..... 🙂

Hey There
From what I remember they asked questions regarding why dentistry, we talked about my research, what I would do if I did not get into dental school this year, what do I know about PBL. You really want to mention how you love PBL. They are really big on that. What are my hobbies, any extracurricular activities. They asked about my volunteer experiences. They really did not pinpoint any weaknesses in my applicaiton as far as grades go. My interview was with two faculty and one student (at the same time). It was not stressful at all. They just wanted to get to know you and why Indiana U. Good luck!
I would love to hear what you thought about the school after your interview if you don't mind!

Thanx for the quick reply...
Sure, I'll post a reply as soon as I get back.... This might sound dumb, but what is PBL???? I've been in dental field for last 3 years(Lab Tech), but never heard of it....pelase reply...thanx..

PBL is problem based learning. It is the new innovative method in teaching. At IU I believe it is a minor part of their curriculum, yet they really boast about it. It is where you learn your basic sciences via case studies. They put you in small groups and you have to reserch the topic. There is a lot more to it I am sure.

I also interviewed with three people. One professor, one dentist, and a student. It was very laid back. They did not ask me too many questions.
They didn't even ask why I wanted to be a dentist, my research, what I was doing in graduate school, or my poor DAT scores. I was surprised!
They were really interested in knowing why I applied to Indiana. As GradMS said, they love PBL!!! I mentioned that and everyones face lit up! They will ask why you like PBL.
Simple questions were asked--what do you like to do for fun? What do you think of Indianapolis? What do you think of the weather today??? My interviewers joked about football, the cheap housing, me marrying a hoosier some day etc. They were all very nice 🙂
One thing I wish I knew before the interview---IU is very very big on graduate work. They have very good programs for putting their students into specialties. Don't stress out. The interview is very cool and relaxed~
Goodluck
GradMS---is PBL only a minor part of the learning cirriculum at IU? Or is it the ONLY type of cirriculum they have? For some reason, I got the impression that it was the only way students were taught.

Hey man thanks for the heads up......
Yeah I've reading coupla books here and there trying to prepare for the interview.... Altough I really appreciate ya'lls help.... again, thank yu very much.....

I'm hoping to get an interview here in New Orleans, but still havn't heard from them, so right now Indiana is my top priority since they're the only one who invited me.....

Later....
Wish me luck...

Beagle-
From what I recall and from what my friend who goes there told me PBL occurs in conjunction with traditional lecturing. And you meet only once a week for PBL sessions. I may be wrong though!

Yo guys,
Yeah the interview is very laid back and I was suprised they didnt ask me anything about my Dat scores or anything like that. While I was waiting outside for the interview I had about 3 students pass me and tell me good luck, so it is a great atmosphere. PBL is def. a huge part of Indiana's curriculm, t hat is the reason Indiana needs to start in July, while most other schools start in august. Oh and dont be so sure about everyone loving PBL, becuase of the 3 doctors I had interview me, 2 didnt like Pbl at all while the other one did. Let me know if you have any other questions. I interviewed on nov 27th and got my acceptance letter dec 2nd. Good Luck!
