congrats Reign, I'm also @ ross. 229/99 and 224/97 (Step 1&2) CS Pass. I couldn't apply to texas or Cali because of the whole blue book thing. I applied to 50+ schools.

I'm pretty close to you too 3.65 GPA, LOR from Anesthesiology, 2 IM and 1 Cardio. Anesthesiology rotation completed also. Also submitted Sept 1.
 
Any one else? I have nothing yet. Any vets. would like to chime in on my chances?
 
it's still very early for IMGs, I don't think I got my first invite till the first week of Oct. Many also wait for your application to be complete, i.e. all LORs, step1,2 and CS scores in before sending out an invite.
 
I haven't gotten anything else :-(

I keep feverishly checking my email and . . . .nada. Thanks for the advice and encouragement RJ - hopefully will hear some good news next month.

You're an anomaly. You're already a trained professional, residency will just be a formality for you. You are much more qualified then we are. I was looking for more Carrib US IMG's. Thanks for the input tho, I'm sure you'll get your #1 choice. Gluck

Hey there I m also an img interested in anesthesia.. I'll be applying next year though I just finished 3rd year but I m a bit off cycle.

When you say you did two years of research what do you mean by that? Did you take two years off after med school? Before med school? During clinicals? Was it directly anesthesia related work?

USMLE: 241/236/Passed CS, All on my first try
Electives: One month gas at MGH, 2 weeks of surgery at PP in Florida
Letters: Anesthesia, Medicine, Surgery (PP)
Lots of volunteer work in Pakistan

I thought I would be somewhat competitive as well, but I haven't gotten a single interview yet, it's really freaking me out. If any IMGs from last year's match read this, do IMGs get interviews later than everyone else? I didn't even apply to a back up specialty, I'm pretty bent on gas...

I just finished a rotation at a site that was relatively IMG friendly; your scores are good. your electives aren't really a huge deal when it comes to interviews , though a good letter from MGH is nice. In any case, i was talking to a FMG from india today and he told me he didn't get a single interview until mid october last year, and a SGU grad said he didn't get interviews till near november, so just sit tight. I'm an american grad with decent scores and i've only got 3 interviews so far , so i think right now a lot of interviews are going out to us grads with stellar scores, and more average applicants will see some love in october. best of luck.

I'm a bit of a non-traditional medstudent in that I graduated undergrad with a business degree and then decided I wanted to go into medicine. I completed a post bac program at UPENN while doing research at the Rowan Breast Cancer Center and Philadelphia Heart Institute. I'm currently working on a QA project in Anesthesia at my hospital with a resident.

As far as being off cycle - use it to your advantage! This allows you the time needed to find those hard to get outside rotations. Do as many anesthesia electives as possible - ie pain management. I wish you the very best next year. Good luck!

I disagree that a bunch of anesthesia electives are the best way to go unless you need LOR's. One or two is fine but you would probably be better off doing SICU, MICU, pulm, cards etc and work really hard. These are as valuable or more so than sitting next to a resident in the OR and maybe a doing couple DL's and putting in few IV's.

Agreed - I should have stated - do the extra anesthesia elective AFTER the important ones as far as LoRs are concerned. I do think, given that you have months to spare, that more time spent in your chosen field to really decide if this is for you is always a good thing. I would also start getting LoRs together early, so that when you apply, they're ready to go on sept 1st. Hope that helps!
 
Don't be discouraged just yet with interviews. I applied 4 yrs ago as an SGU graduate and now I will graduate this year as chief resident and with a pediatric fellowship.

I applied to 107 programs and got 17 interviews. My first interview came in mid to late October and the last one was offered in January.

I am currently involved in selection of interviewees for my program and they no longer take SGU/Ross or any international students. This is true of several programs across the US. Do your homework and only apply to this programs with interns and CA-1s that are IMGs/FMGs.

It's getting more competitive to get an interview every year.

I have none so far. I had one but then they took it away from me. (Texas tech)
 
Wow, that's annoying that they took the interview away. Do you know why?

Cook County, Ohio state med centre, NYMC, UNM, on a wait list at UIC - so depends on interviews becoming available.

Long story short, the Texas Medical board said its fine for me to work @ any residency in texas regardless of my rotation status (green vs blue). However, Texas Tech said I was not eligbile for a texas license AFTER I completed the residency so they wouldn't give me the interview. Basically, a loophole to have some guarantee that anyone that does graduate will stay in texas. If I didn't say anything about my rotations status it would have been fine, however who knows down the line if I would have gotten accepted they check my rotations and then kick me out.

You mind me asking what your stats are JMN?

I've gotten my fair share of rejections, but mostly from schools that I really didn't have a shot at, but applied to anyway - just for sheer masochism.

I went to the ASA conference Residency Meet and Greet and picked 6-7 programs that I felt really strongly about and thought I had a shot at and really focused on talking to them, expressing interest, giving them my CV and will follow up this week with emails/phone calls.

What is rotation status? Does this make you eligible/ineligible for residency in texas.
 
Basically, I did some of my rotations @ "bluebook" sites. These rotations are rotations at places that basically don't have ACGME accreditation or (greenbook)

For a texas medical LICENSE you are required to have all greenbook rotations OR pass your specialities board examination.

However, to enter RESIDENCY in texas your rotation's do not matter (According to the Texas Medical Board, which you can call them and verify)

Texas tech took away my interview because I was ineligible to receive a license AFTER I finished their program.
 
Oh and I also emailed a bunch of programs last night. Let's hope it works.
 
If you're a IMG, forget UF, just wasting time and money interviewing there- don't even go there as a fellow or attending, you will regret
 
Hey all,

Does it look like your interviews are picking up now, or slowing down? I only got 2 so far, nothing over the past 2 weeks except rejections. Do you think it's time to lose hope and apply to IMed as a back up?
 
I got three last week. I think it's really hard to know but reading other posts it seems like people get them all the way through to January, although I take it at a slower rate. Some programs also seem to wait till the MSPE comes out before offering interviews.
I'm an absolute rookie, so I really don't know much, but reading other threads, it seems like interviews will continue to be offered at least through late october and early november.
 
I have none so far. But only a couple of rejections. I think I have 4 rejections, out of the 57 Anesthesia ones I applied to. Maybe after all the US grads decline & MSPE's come out they start throwing us the scraps. lol
 
How are you guys fairing? I still don't have any interviews... about 10 rejects out of 58 tho. No rejections from the "worst" programs though.
 
I got one the week BEFORE MSPE's came out - U of Missouri in Columbia. Total of 5 Anesthesia interviews (one of the places I talked to at the ASA conference). 4 Prelim IMs.

I hope it picks up - none since MSPE's came out - getting nervous. Good luck to everyone.
 
I wouldn't be worried. That's 9 more interviews then me. lol.
 
How'd you go with your emails? Any responses from program coordinators?
I've got 8 anesthesiology interviews, 1 prelim and 1 TY. I got a bunch of rejections after MSPEs, 1TY IV and 1 anesthesiology. I think there will still be a number of cancellations - not the best way to get an IV obviously. Reading previous year posts IVs went out all the way till Jan. Then there's the scramble, I saw last year lots of places went unmatched in anesthesiology. Also there were something like 150 unmatched surg prelim spots so I suppose there are options.

Got U of Cincinnati yesterday. Crossing my fingers for more next week. I agree with jmnels81 - still plenty of time left for interviews to come out.
 
Yeah, it's not looking good at all over here. Zero interviews...and there are no red flags on my app. I believe its my below avg. step 2 (224) that is screening me out. As we can see Reign you have a 225 for step 1 and a 234 for step two, but I have a 229 and 224.

I'm not losing all hope yet, I've been emailing/calling programs letting them know I'm still very interested.

I haven't even gotten any interviews for IM and I even added categorical tracks to all of them (with the prelims).

GM - Are you sure there's nothing on the app that's missing? That score should not be locking you out from anything. I would go back over everything with a fine tooth comb. I spoke to my adviser here and he mentioned that people still got interviews into January. I wish you the best - hope that you hear good news soon.
 
yep...I hit the "oh man I think stuff on my app is missing" mode a while back...called some programs to verify everything was good. I really think the IMG apps are great this year and/or my step 2 is hurting me.
 
They seem like reasonable scores to me GM. It seems quite arbitrary at times as to how they decide who does and doesn't get interviews. I'm not sure about you guys but I haven't heard back from a lot of programs. I imagine that some just never send out rejections but I think it also means that there are still interviews out there. Good luck! I hope some are just around the corner.
 
yeah I appreciate the consolation, but it is what it is. The system isn't perfect, but that's how they pick applications. If I was at a US med school I might be sitting at 15 interviews, but I'm not so I gotta roll with what I got.
 
GM - saw that Case Western invite, congrats! That's awesome :-D I hope you kick butt during the interview.
