Any interviews yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

What is snail mail?

Thanks

I think that it just means the email via the ERAS website. I could be wrong though.

#6 JHU today 10/1 .........nice to see after a 1 week interview dry spell.

I was wondering if people would mind posting their USMLE scores in addition to interview invites. Thanks for helping those of us who will be applying next year.

Didn't you already ask about this earlier in the same post and other posts? Are you currently a MS-III? If so, don't put to much stock into these numbers. They are only one portion of the application. Although, most programs interview candidates before they get the Dean's Letter, programs will still use the whole application in their decision process. Don't worry and relax. Have fun this year and try to get good LORs from Anesthesiologists. Ultimately, the people that match at a certain program do so because they are the right fit for that program. However, since you are curious...

COMLEX I 650

USMLE I 225
Awaiting COMLEX II scores and will take USMLE Step II in 1 week. :scared:

Interviews thus far at Hopkins, Michigan, UT-Southwestern, Oregon, Virginia Commonwealth, Cleveland Clinic, and Rush.

Hope this helps, but just stop worrying about your chances. Anesthesia isn't competitive as Derm, Rads, Optho where we have to be this stressed about numbers. There is a good program at there for almost everybody. It is just finding out which one you mesh best with. You can drive yourself crazy during the application process. The waiting for interview invitations and trying to fit your schedule around rotations, interviews, and family issues is stressful enough as is. Not to mention the expense it will take to get to these interviews.

Good luck everybody in this process and hope to see some of you on the interview trail.

i'm stressed as hell....only 2 interviews since september... :scared:

Just trying to get a sense of how competitive is anesthesia this year - I'm a resident already, and happy to see these trends continue - we need good smart people in our field! Please post the #number of people in MSIV class applying for anesthesia/total number of students in your class

~10/~140 for Cornell

Being a third year I was curious as to how you set up an interview when you are doing a rotation. Will the rotation let you have a week off at a time? Or do you schedule your interviews during an open block? How are you all doing it?

Really isn't cool to try to hijack a thread after 180+ posts. Your idea is good. However, you should really start a new thread. Let's try to keep this one only for people to report interviews they have received. Thanks.

Just recieved my first rejection... from Cornell. Wonder if it is b/c I'm a D.O. Come on, w/ a USMLE 253/99 and a Comlex 767/99, not even a interview! Just curious if any other D.O.'s out there happen to recieve an interview from Cornell?

Lets get back on track

Got Miami Today via Email

Good Luck to everyone.

Well, I put my applications in later than I wanted. Wanted them in the middle of September but got them in towards the end. Applied to 20 programs around the U.S.

Good news, though! Got my first interview offer today at Baylor.

For anyone reading this post and knows something of Baylor, what do you think of the program? My PD says it was definitely worth applying to and that Houston would be a good place for a single person to live. Any comments?

Apparently, UIC is getting their process of reviewing apps underway. They downloaded my info on 10/4.

It's not all about the USMLE/COMLEX scores, ladies and gents. Sorry to hear about your rejection, amigo, but I'm sure you will have far more who'll want to talk to you than turn you away.

yea, i know. but... i have tons of research, 2 projects during medical school - one is ongoing in departments of anesthesia and pharmacology. honored the anes elective. solid grades preclinical and clinical. awesome letters, including department chair. president of anesthesia society, officer of honors internal medicine society. volunteer in community outreach. list goes on. i think the problem is that everyone else has all this crap too and it's just luck of the draw - because there are people that matched last year that have almost exactly the same profile as me. anyway, that's what i'll think to feel better about myself. oh well, life goes on. will see what the other schools think.

i guess i'll be seeing a rejection letter from cornell soon...

UCLA Harbor 10/5

Just got two more invites:

Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN

University of Michigan- Ann Arbor

Also, does anyone know if the University of Colorado program is still offering interviews (or has even started)? They have not even downloaded my application from ERAS yet.

In response to Rocky888's last post I really don't think that the number of anesthesia applicants this year has increased as dramatically as he makes it sound. Everyone keeps telling all of us applicants that anesthesia is getting so much more competetive--especially this year. Faculty members that I have talked to have told me on multiple occasions that a few years ago an applicant only needed to apply to 5+ programs. But now we should be applying to at least 10 and probably more like 20. So, if the same number of applicants as last year apply to twice as many programs this year than those from last year= twice as many applications.

My point= I don't think its time to worry about not getting interviews just yet. I don't think it'll be that much more competetive this year.

It'll be nice to meet some of you during the season!

UCSF downloaded my app sometime early in September. No word from them yet though. If you are really interested in them, then I would give them a call and see about your application status and get it straightened out.

UMichigan
UNC
Wake Forest
UVA
Mayo Rochester

Got UIC via email yesterday

Got Cornell today via e-mail.

UCSF hasn't downloaded my app yet, either.....and people that I've talked to who applied have said the same thing. If anyone has called to ask about it, let me know what they said.

Out of curiosity, has anyone heard from Duke, WF, B&W?
