Hi I was wondering if any of you are from Michigan???? I'm from Grosse Pointe, but I currently go to school in Chicago🙂

I wouldn't consider myself a Michigander, but I'll be here for a while I guess. I just drove back from Gross Point this evening......

I'm originally from southwestern Michigan (also did some Chicago schooling.) Now at AZCOM in Phoenix. A little less green, but it seems to attract lots of Midwesterners.

yup yup Okemos in the hizzzzzzouse 😀 🙄 I've never claimed it b4 🙁

Bleeding Green and white, undergrad(01) grad (03). Go SPARTANS!!! 😛

me! but i'm in school in Pennsylvania right now🙂

i've lived in michigan all my life. i'm from a small town outside of lansing. i've gone to school at western, umichigan (both undergrad) and michigan state (grad school.) i'm now at umich for med school. someday i want to get my butt outta here! but it's absolutely a gorgeous fall day here in michigan today. 😀

Hey,

I'm from Michigan! I was born in Niles, went to undergrad in K-zoo, and now I'm in E. Lansing.

Anyone applying to MSU-CHM? Such a small school, no one talks about it on this board! I don't know much about it right now, but I'm interested in learning more.....

Go State!

*Soleil*

Born in Dearborn, live in Grand Rapids.

I applied to MSU-CHM, Wayne, Umich. Just got Wayne and umich secondary, do you know how much they screen before sending?

Also, I felt rather used when MSU just wanted my money, but I guess it may save me some work if they reject me...

Do u think I have a good chance at getting into wayne med school

GPA: 3.75
GPA Science: 3.65

MCAT: Taking this april

Experience: Worked at a doctors office since I was 16

Extrac: Amnesty International (treas), Environ club (webmaster, treas), Honors Society, NSCS, Golden Key

Please be honest, do I have a shot????

What kinda MCAT score do i need?????

Vegan,
If you get 10s you'll be in good shape at Wayne. Their average is something like 9.4.

You definitely have a shot. I would say with your GPA, you could easily get in with 27. Keep that GPA up this year and study hard for the MCAT and you'll be in good shape.

yup a CHM lover here 😛 Plus I worked there for 6yrs while in college/grad 😱
Beautiful school, great resources, due to my sojourn there, I KNOW just about everything to do with schl, academics and social, so feel free to ask away 🙂

I've had friends get into Wayne with a 24.

GO STATE!!!
We bout to beat U-M (3-2 😀 )Nov 1, buahahaaaaaaaahaha, so much for winning Big ten 🙄

yup, i'm from jackson. i go to umich now. ann arbor rocks! and if we lose to state nov. 1, i swear to god i will transfer schools. what a disappointing season so far in football!! 🙁 but oh well, i love umich to death. michigan weather sucks, but it's worth it to go to school here!

laura 🙂

Another guy @ wayne here.

Michigan football is depressing every year. They always say "This'll be the year they go undefeated!" then they get their @ss kicked by little schools. damn.

In response to the above poster about wayne, I agree w/ the 27 score. The new first year class is even bigger than my class was, so that means the average should stay about the same (maybe drop, but only a little...).

MSU 5-1 (2-0 big ten)
Michigan 4-2 (1-1 big ten) 😀

I'm havin a ball, thought this was supposed to be Michigan's year, or so they've said since 1997:laugh:  😀

Hey ya'll - I'm a Michigander... an above-the-bridge-one 🙂

I'm applying for State and Wayne...but REALLY pulling for Wayne...
*fingers crossed*

Another Michigander here--I grew up near Grand Rapids, went to college in Indiana and was just accepted at MSU CHM as in state --woo hoo!!!

I don't see an "official" thread for acceptance there--is there one??

Grew up in Lansing, went to Michigan State undergrad. I now live in Georgia but I applied to UofM, Wayne and threw in MSU (even though they don't take many out of staters). Right now its ~50 degrees in GA. I don't miss the snow at all but for an acceptance I'd happily buy a pair of snow boots to trudge to class. 😀

I'm from Michigan too! 🙂 Battle Creek since I was 2. And, unlike the rest of you, I go to a smaller school: Ferris State. But, it's been good to me...hey, they gave me a full tuition scholarship. I also applied to MSU, Wayne, and U of M. We'll see what happens I guess.

hey everyone!!! I'm a michigander, been one all my life. won't be applying until 05 for the 06 class, but I thought I would post in support of michigan!! yea the "D" in the house!!😀

Im in highschool.. Got my deferment from UM LSA today. Sucks cause I really wanted to go there. I have been accepted to MSU though. Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what to do to get off the waitlist at UMich? Say I didnt get into UMich and had to go to MSU for a while. How much easier is it to transfer to UMich and how long do you think I would have to wait? 1 semester? 1 year? 2 years?

Thanks ahead of time for your input.

Happy Holidays.
AkN

I believe that you have to have 24 credit hours to transfer to u of m, unless they use your high school credits along with the mstate credits. I am at a comm college and my transcript was sent to u of m and all they said I needed was 24 credits to transfer. make sure that the classes you take at mstate are transferrable though, I mean if 1-2 classes don't that ok but when you start talking a whole semester of classes not transferring that can be quite bad!!! hope this helps, but feel free to contact the school b/c they can give you the exact answers.

I'm a Michigander now too although I've lived out of state for the last couple years for work. I went to UM for undergrad and my Masters. A^2 is a great place. Now I'm applying to Wayne, MSU and UMich. Got an interview at Wayne and a secondary from UMich but am waiting to hear back from them. MSU put me on hold for a secondary...can you believe it!?! It's one thing for an interview but for a secondary!?! (For those who like stats 31P, 3.75 engin) I'm an August MCATer so only 2 interviews for me so far (Wayne, Case Western). I'm crossing my fingers that more will come😉

i'm a mich student (calvin college 😀 ), illinois resident. i applied to MSU's med school....and they ripped me off!!!! i sent the fee so that they would send me a 2ndary, and they rejected me after they received it. is it just me or is that totally GHEEEY? *sniff* 🙄

That's pretty dirty of them. Sheesh. You'd think applicants were made of money or something.

Hell ya eh! I'm originally from da UP as well! I go to Western but my fam moved to Pennsylvania, six schools there as opposed to MI's 3 so I'm not applying to MI schools. All PA and IL too cause I'd love to go to chi-town (not to mention the great schools there). There seems to be a lot of people applying to PA, IL and MI together.

Ouch, that is hard to believe they put you on hold for a secondary with your stats from UM, plus a masters! Especially since I didn't think MSU was one of the pickier schools compared to Case and U of M. Go figure.

I'm an August MCATer too and I've only gotten 1 invite to interview. Really hoping for more good news to come in, I'm yet to get a rejection or a hold but I know I will have plenty of those in due time.

dr Bodacious,
Where did you get your interview at??

Temple. Coming up in a little over two weeks...

Native Trojan (Troy), currently living in Ann Arbor. Just graduated from UM. Going to miss Michigan when I leave for medical school, but it's definitely time to see another part of the country for a few years. All told, this state is so unique, beautiful, and fun to live in. It's nice that the northern part is completely out of the way of everything, because you go visit those towns and they are just completely untouched by the Starbucks and Applebees of the world. I'm going to miss being able to go up to Traverse City on weekends when I need to get away from that...

ok a Spartan signin in, went to MSU for undergrad and grad. Just got accepted to CHM for 2008!!!! aksmd2008 we could be classmates 😛 Just turned in my Wayne secondary, so who knows. Right now its 99% likely its MSU for me . 🙂
You can usually find me travling down I-96 and US 23 though, so every from Lansing area to Ann Arbor to the "D" is home 😀

hey guys, interesting thread... not a michigander but i'm headed to UM next year... can any of yall that have lived in ann arbor give me their opinions of the city? i really only had time to catch a glimpse of state street in the car, is this pretty much the heart of AA?

Hi Michiganders!
I'm not one of you for real but I did spend one year in Grand Ledge near Lansing as an exchange student - and I loved it there! One of the best years of my life. A lot of my friends from back then wanted to go to med school, wonder how many did?
Happy holidays! 😍

i live in ann arbor now, and i love it! it's kind of a small city, but for how small it is it is just amazing. there is a ton of culture... so many good restaurants, so many awesome people to meet. there are always awesome parties and good bars to go to... anything from a trashy college bar with $1 specials to really nice places with $10+ drinks. parking is a bitch, but once you learn where you can park illegally without getting in trouble or once you just deal with spending money on meters/in garages it's not a big deal anymore. i like being close to such a good hospital in case of any emergencies. going to u of m has really helped me grow as a person, too, i think, as corny as that sounds. you meet so many different people... it really made me expand my horizons and rethink all my views to make sure i really believe that stuff and don't just think it cause that's what mom and dad said was true. if you like protesting things you strongly believe in there are plenty of rallys and boycotts and everything else. and there are soooo many extra-curriculars! there are a lot of locally owned stores, too, which i think is really great. and if you need a bigger city to go to you can always go to detroit. and i guess i'm just rambling at this point, so anyway, i hope you love ann arbor as much as i do!

Hey I just graduated from Oakland University. Met some really cool people here but can't say I'm that pleased with the teaching (especially the math department!!). Anyway I had a few questions about Wayne State Med school. Basically I really want to go there, but my GPA is really low, I graduated with a 3.0 GPA majoring in Biological Sciences but when i calculate my science GPA like med schools do i have a 2.64...

Now trust me I know I need to bring this up majorly and do VERY well on the MCAT. I'm just looking for some opinions from perhaps people that go to wayne or know wayne fairly well.

I'm going to be taking at least 20+ credits worth of high lvl science post-bach classes here at OU for the next year or so to try to bring up my Science GPA as much as I can. At best it could maybe get to a 3.0, probably a 2.8-2.9.

I'm pretty sure this is the way to go, and then if I don't get in that cycle, try to get the M.S. Biomedical Science at Wayne and then apply. I was just curious what you guys thought of this. Has anyone done this masters? How helpful would this be? How hard is it to get into? How long is the essay for this masters? Should I just go for the masters right away then apply? etc. etc.

I am going to be talking to the Wayne advisor after christmas break but was just looking for a heads up from anyone that has insight. Thanks a lot, this site rocks btw.🙂

one of my best friends is finishin up that masters in biomed sciences at wayne, and its hard, pretty competitive bunch, but its great prep, and gives u a foot in, about 75% of them usually end up at wayne med. I dont think u can do it in a yr though, well then again i can ask.
