I'm participating in the 7 year B.S./D.O. degree plan from UNT and UNTHSC/TCOM. Can anyone here on the boards give me some feedback on TCOM? Did you like it? Things you hated about it?

Took me a little while to decide that's the way I wanted to go...but I'd be kidding myself if I went M.D., just because some people favor that. I agree whole-heartily with the D.O. philosophy, and I think OMM is amazing. I'm jumping in as fast as I can.

Ryan,

I'm currently a 3rd year at TCOM. Overall, I've liked it alot - there are always things I could complain about (as there are at any school, I've heard from students at other schools), but I think I have received an excellent education.

If I had known of the 7 year program many years ago, I may have applied to the same program. There is a current 4th year here that is completing that same program. Congratulations on your acceptance.

If you have specific questions, feel free to PM me.

TCOM is a work in progress, which is a good thing and a bad thing--mostly a good thing. There are a lot of people working really hard to make sure each year the educational experience is better than the year before. But that also means things are rarely the same from year to year. FOr example, we just finished Neuro 2. The class before us had a terrible experience, but because of that, the administration and faculty made a lot of changes and it was a much better course this year with a higher class average than last year.

They are making lots of improvements to the facilities as well.

This was kind of a rough year for some of the 3rd years with the hospital closing and the transition to new rotation sites, but by the time you are there, those sites will be well established and will be a real asset to the school, I think.

Welcome to the family!
