oh shoot,
I am so sorry,,,

this is a tread for UCSF and not UOP!!

I just saw such a big discussion about it that it became misleading!

CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE WHO GOT INTO UCSF

It is an amazing school... In fact from most doctors I spoke to in the city they all said it is the most respected dental school in California!

So, specially if you want to stay in the area you will have a great advantage !

I used to live right beside it.. I LOVE the area!!! The library has the best view.. I used to go there ti study for the NDBE

I never got an interview there tho 🙁

Well Going over all these thoughts put in by other students I just could not hold myself and wanted to share a few facts about my school here. I absolutely loved my experience here. When I stood on the same point where I had to decide which way I came to UCSF and till today I feel happy about my decision. I totally agree with the fact that UOP makes very good general dentists, they even tell this in thier orientation, but that does'nt mean others schools dont. At UCSF the goal is to develop you all around so as to when you graduate you have all the ways open whereever you want to go.

1. Very large research group - you can always find something related to your interest and if you want to pursue it later.

2. All the post graduate programs offered- If you want to specialise later you can start observing, getting to know more about the field. Also you are taught here where to stop, whats the limit of general dentist- don try heroics just refer to post graduate clinics.

3. More than sufficient and i mean MORE THAN SUFFICIENT number of patients for IDP students. We dont accept dentical but school has come up with special fee rates which are far less than any other rates.

4. EXCELLENT school reputation all round USA. Whosoever applied from my class or previous batches for a post graduation program, any jobs or GPR they got into it. I went to so many programs for interview and all the faculty of other school spoke highly of UCSF program.

5. Totally stress free ( UCSF- Univ. of California Stress Free) I don recall any moment i felt stressed, all the faculty, senior students, administration etc are so student friendly, the curriculum is nice and easy going, what more i could have asked for.

6. Very good trainig for Regional boards.

7. Ya we are expensive but what difference 10- 20k dollars make in long run, if you have to make a decision between what works or what you like. If you can get a loan for 220k you can surely get for 230k too.

8. campus-campus-campus even if it is small we still have it and a beautiful one.

I still say don start shooting me for putting in my opinion, I am a proud UCSF student but i hold nothing against any other school. I know both current and graduated students from all the school with international program and I can promise that this is one of the most relaxing and top educational school. In the end its the candidate who makes the best out of the program.

all the best

one funny comment i noted some one mentioned UOP has 3 years DDS program amazing and thats the reason it is one of top schools. Well I just wanted to know do you know the reason why? also that 3 years is for regular DDS how does it help IDS- I would take it if they say IDS is for 1.5 years. One more thing ADA lets BU to take 80 students every year and NYU about 150 WOW WOW, they must be having a very very strong clinical etc etc program as ADA let them had so many students, why doesnt every one join there??

just wondering......

Personally if you are stuck between deciding between both the schools I would suggest you speak with someone who is attending that school currently rather than what others state as a fact, etc. Have gone through interviews and attended school here in the US, these people ie. Patata and others have a better perspective that your fellow candidates lack and also don't have anything to gain in the process. UoP is a great school as is UCSF

Patata

Thanks for your valuable and unbiased input!!!! I have a couple of questions and am hoping you would be able to help me out...

1) It seems like you got into Prostho residency program in UCSF only. Congrats on that!! Did you work on any projects during your DDS program, if you did when did you start working (your 1st yr OR 2nd yr) on those and how much time per week you volunteered??

2) You said you went to many programs for interview. Could you put some light on research expectations of these programs? I am personally interested in Ortho/prostho after my DDS.

Thanks again!!!

my ans: Thanks, I started working in my 2nd year although had an option of starting in 1st also. Time was about 6-8 hours a week which came out easy.

A: All the directors asked me about the research experiences and my future research intent. They ask about type of research, your role, type of study and if any software used, if u know how to use it, what kind of research you want to continue if you join their school etc.

Hope it helps

Dr. Nehra

After reading your posts, sometimes it feels like you are one of the most genuine person here and is seriously trying to help others. Your accomplishments really tempt me to discuss with you my case in detail and to get some tips.

But other times, everything sounds fake to me including your claims of getting acceptance from UOP, UCSF and BU. First red flag comes from your joining and first posting date, almost two days after the results of 4 universities came out.

Why didn't you use your old ID? You have been a part of SDN for a long time, right?

If you are genuinly trying to help others and don't have a personal agenda here, i guess you won't mind posting your acceptance letters. You have already made your name public so it shouldn't be an issue.

If you have issues posting in public you can send it to me in PM. I would be very grateful to you if you could lay down my doubts to rest.

I am sorry but by previous bad experiences here have led me to question things which look fishy.

What do you say???

Man, I just joined this forum.. I had the same impression. At first I thought this seemd to be the most helpful user of all. Now I am already annoyed with the posts. Dude, we all know you love UOP and you think it is the best school. But you don't need to try to make everyone agree with you. Knock it off. ugh.
