I was thinking about the "2 people off the waitlist" situation, and here is my take. I am on the waitlist, so maybe this is wishful thinking, but I think it makes sense. Last year, Albany clearly over-accepted their class. There's no other expanation for a school that typically has decent waitlist movement to accept next to no one off their list. They actually came very close to having too many students in their first year class. Most schools are very stringent about their numbers, and while Albany may have just dealt with it, in the past other schools (I believe the incident I'm thinking of is Cornell many years ago) have actually bribed students with tuition breaks in order to convince them to defer for a year so they would have their magic number of students. Numbers are very important for things like anatomy and can also be an issue with clinical rotations.
So, I think it would be reasonable for Albany to be cautious this year. They almost had a bad situation last year, so they're probably not going to be accepting as many people outright as they did last year. This may be the explanation for why a few people have remarked that they thought they were very competitive and they were waitlisted.
This is what I'm hoping for, obviously I'm biased 🙄
