Do any of you know if most DO programs have a cutoff for COMLEX scores?

Which ones? Don't be shy... 🙂

I dont know...havent decided yet.

I have worked with Colorectal surgeons and Reconstructive surgeons. I have a trauma elective coming up.

I did some time with Vascular surgeons but Im not sure thats my thing.

I have plenty of time to figure it out!

Good question...I didnt encounter anything in writing anywhere and when talking to residents it doesnt seem to be an issue. My COMLEX I wasnt great but it was far from the bottom of the applicant pool.

I'm in a tough spot right now trying to decide between Ortho and Gen. Surg. I'm lucky enough to have the grades, board scores, and evals for either but I just can't figure out which to do. Any suggestions?

Also, in terms of Gen Surg D.O. residencies, anybody know anything good/bad about the programs?

Like anything you need to evaluate each program on an individual basis.

I am only familiar with a few programs as I didnt spread myself out all over.

I looked for programs where residents spent time in strong hospitals and were exposed to a variety of procedures.

I also looked for programs where chiefs get a great deal of autonomy. I wanted strong trauma and oncology sites. I also looked for programs with a good size group of residents...I didnt want to be one of two in a year.

Location also played an important role...I own a home and wanted to stay there if at all possible.

I wanted a program that didnt keep me in one or two sites for the majority of my time...I like the idea of moving around a little bit.

I also wanted availability to cadaver labs, animal labs, strong research, teaching responsibilities and robotic simulators...or as many of those as I could find in one program.

Programs that sent most grads to fellowships were higher on my list...although I *think* I want to specialize, I dont know for sure.

Hey buddy, what specific programs are you familiar with?

Hey guys!!! Good luck with the surgery! That's what I'm want to do too. I'm just accepted to medical school though so i won't be able to go to surgery for a 4 years. Good luck guys!!!

I've researched east coast (PA, NJ, some NY) programs

I'm researching PCOM, Stratford, Lutheran MC, Wyckoff Heights, and St. Barnabas right now. Anybody heard anything about these programs?

I am only a lowly M1 here, but have you tried looking into some of the Michigan, Ohio, and NSU ones?

Those states do seem to have a lot of residencies too.

Ohio has some excellent programs. Doctors Hospital is very strong from what I hear.
