Did anyone with average stats (i.e 3.5 GPA, 20 DAT, 100 hours of shadowing, 100+ hours EC's community service) with nothing particularly unique about their app get accepted this cycle?

3.1 overall
3.16 science
20 TS 19AA with a 15 QR
Got accepted last night. Work hard and absolutely anything is possible. I believe in you!

:bang:

How do averages work?

Well I was wondering if it was mostly people with insanely high stats and people with really low stats but they make up for it somehow.

I guess I should have asked the question a different way 🙁

3.47 Science and BCP, 3.56 overall
20AA, 21 TS
3,000 hours dental experience
200 volunteer hours
800 hours in a research lab

No acceptances. If I need to apply next cycle, I am going to apply to way more private schools since I mostly applied to state schools. I thought I would get in somewhere by now if I applied broadly. I sent my application to 23 schools.

So as a suggestion for someone with average stats, supplement your applications with some private schools!

Woah, what.

How many interviews did you receive? And no obvious red flags on your app?

Awesome! was this cycle the first time you applied?

Yes. I am pretty happy about the schools I got interviews from and am patiently optimistic. We will see!

You are a teacher, right? That would definitely stand out and give you some interesting life experiences to talk about!

Yep! I'm a high school science teacher. One of my interviewers who is currently a dentist used to be a high school science teacher as well and we were really able to connect over it!

I'm a nontraditional student. I have my MPH in epidemiology and currently am employed as a teacher. Other than that, not really. I have a couple hundred of hours of shadowing and about 600 hours of volunteer work total (to be fair, as a nontraditional student, I have been accumulating hours longer than your typical junior in undergrad).

How were your EC's and shadowing hours?

I had 120ish shadowing hours and almost 100 volunteer hours. I'm also I tour guide and held quite a bit leadership positions like most people on this site, for example Gen chem and O chem TA.
