Hell yea I own firearms. I fire them in my bark yard too - seriously.
I live in a part of the country where that is acceptable and normal.
My favorite firearm is a Desert Eagle. It was handed down from my father to me.

Personal favorites are my 1894 Lever Action, the Springfield I qualified with in the CMP, and the Browning HiPower. Most effective gun for my ergonomics that I have personally shot is the AKS-74U. I do hunt with the 1894 and Springfield in the present day, and highly recommend the 1894 as a solid training gun.

I used to own an old Remington hunting rifle and a Mossberg 500 pump shotgun. I left them in WV.

Although technically since I’m on a disability rating from the military, my wife “owns it” and in no way do I ever touch it...Or know how to get to it...or clear the S&W magnums with it....along with my FN five-seven FDE coyote brown handgun....

I had one for a year then just sold it. Cool gun, but didn't really trip my trigger. I couldn't find a specific use for it.
It'll be home defense for me. Plus I can just grab a glock fun stick for more ammo.
That is a lot of why I bout it initially. I had the KelTec Sub 2000 which also takes Glock mags. Unfortunately KelTec peeved me off on how they handled the recall, so I sent that gun down the river.
No guns currently, but I may be inheriting a collection when my grandfather goes. I'm not a gun guy, but I'm the only grandchild who isn't a felon or likely to pawn them for drug money.

Because you already get enough drug money 😀... Honestly, if you don't really want to learn, you should just sell them during a Democratic administration. Gun sales and prices historically go up during Democratic tenures. Also, depending on what your grandfather has, you might have some probate complications with the inheritance if he has one of the grandfathered guns that are illegal to possess without an FFL today.
Don't you live in NYC? Isn't it a felony there to possess one within the boroughs that is not a LEO or have a Commissioner license (which means you're super loaded)? Not that legality is really a deterrent from your attitudes toward other consumption, but don't you ever worry about some jerk selling you out and getting your place raided?
Knowing my grandpa, a lot of these might not be legal to begin with. Hopefully they all have serial numbers and aren't implicated in any murders. I'm planning on getting a consult on the legality for sure.
As for selling, maybe they could fund a decent vacation? The only gun I'm really interested in keeping is his revolver.

So, anything prior to 1964, no serial numbers are required. Now for automatics and automatic conversions (like the few legal Thompsons out there), it's not legal if it wasn't registered prior to 1986 (they are all made prior to that period but not all were registered), but you're from an area where these things can be moved to the right hands. And then, if he has good version of some Sears or Winchesters made before 64, yeah, they'd pay for a good vacation. If you have a legal Thompson, yeah, that'd pay for a great vacation.

I just recently built up an AR pistol. 10 inch barrel with an SBA3 "support". Now that the ATF has clarified their stance on those things I avoid the tax stamp process (for SBR anyway).

BS, you live in Austin. Even as liberal as the city is, there are several smiths WITHIN city limits. Austin was an armory for much of its history.
Now, it is permissible for an establishment to forbid concealed or open carry in a building (and local and federal government buildings always have that declaration), but that's always been a state affair (did this not come up in your MPJE, because it is supposed to?).
UT Austin has had major faculty debates regarding the matter on campus, unfortunately for them, TX is one of the few states that explicitly allow concealed carry on campus, and there is at least two faculty members at the pharmacy school that everyone is aware have a concealed carry and do so on campus (and check them in like the University regulations permit in the locker at the building). I found that out when exiting the building once with one of them and had me wait while he retrieved his piece. Started carrying as he was one of the students running for cover from that idiotic Bell Tower sniper back in the 60s (which should identify him to a UTA alumni as he tells this story to his students).

I know exactly who you're talking about. It's unfortunate that so many faculty are opposed to it. I've heard rumors about some faculty having office hours at 51% bars and places where 30.06 and 30.07 signs are posted (51% bars are places that derive 51% or more of their sales from alcohol so you can't carry and 30.06/30.07 signs are how businesses can trespass LTC holders). Really bizarre since those of us who have a LTC are statistically less likely to commit a misdemeanor than a Texas police officer.
I keep a hairy eyeball on anyone toting a pistol...I do not trust them to handle things properly in any event..In addition, you pull your roscoe to save the day in some hold-up or whatever..you instantly become the enemy to any LEO in the area. As they say, there are worse things than being shot and an accidental shooting is one of them..I was recently following some mope thru a grocery with a snubby belted along side his blubber. I could have had that pistol in 5 seconds..Leave 'em at home...

I am licensed, but I don't really know anything about guns, that is my SO's specialty. We own a few, maybe 3? I guess I could go check, but they are locked up, and I'm not sure I remember the combo. I wouldn't be much use in an emergency. One of these years, I will take a CC class, or even just a basic class, but I'm too busy working now. (got to make hay while the sun shines!)

You know what's annoying? The fact that I can't buy a gun in NJ because you need a firearms purchase ID to buy one and you can't get a firearms purchase ID if you live out of state. And then I can't even rent firearms to try out because you need a firearms purchase ID to do that. They make you come in with someone else if you want to rent.
The other **** that pisses me off is the NY SAFE Act banning semi-auto rifles from having detachable magazines + pistol grip, foregrip, tac stock, threaded barrel. Or if you want all the other features you have to get a fixed magazine. The entire law is nothing to do with safety and everything to do with disrupting the firearms industry in the state. All they did was create a market for a company to step in and figure out a solution to the law (Dark Storm Industries came out with a "featureless" AR that accepts detachable magazines and also have a fixed-magazine version where you can get speed loaders to feed the fixed magazine. And on top of that the stupid 10 round limit for magazines.
I have a few 30 round magazines that I want to take to the range in Jersey but they told me sometimes cops come around there to practice and some of them are dinguses who will enforce the law while off duty.

That question on the 4473 is unconstitutional. And so is the SAFE Act.
Online stores won't ship 30 round magazines to New York. They won't ship build your own AR kits to NY that include pistol grips and foregrips. My local store doesn't want to touch the kits or any tactical looking semi-auto.
I buy 5.56 rounds for my Keltec SU16 (shoots the same round as the AR15) at $100 for 500 rounds, so $0.20 a bullet. I like target shooting at the range. I can easily, easily go through 100-200 rounds in a session. Ranges charge by the hour, they are like hookers. The clock doesn't stop because you busted early and need to reload.
I'd like to not have to buy 12 magazines to have the same loadout as I did before when 30 round magazines were legal. It is time consuming to reload magazine.
The AR-15 is one of the simplest, easiest guns to use, and it has a lot of interchangeable parts with a lot of market support, that's why it's really popular. The guy who designed the M16, which the AR-15 is modeled after, designed it to be used by the dumbest 17 year old possible.
As for the guys who carry extra mags. This is not like the movies. People don't just drop and die after getting shot (unless you hit something to disrupt the central nervous system or cause a massive loss of blood pressure). There are many reports of people being shot and still being able to stay in the fight or even run away. Eg, there was a report about a home invasion where a lady shot the burglar 5 times and he still was able to run out and get into his car and drive away.
I dunno..it seems like when you are scared half to death and your hands won't stop shaking..one extra mag would be enough...But the most I've heard of lately is 20 rounds in one poor sucker....that would be like two mags?
