Any Post Baccs in Chicago???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Rosalind Franklin / CMS is actually a little outside Chicago (North Chicago).

Loyola's MA in Medical Sciences program is in Chicago (but if you've seen my previous posts on it, I don't think it's a well structured program) and Northwestern's MS in Physiology and Neurobiology is also in Chicago. Both are one-year programs. Loyola's program is entirely coursework-based, Northwestern's is much more research-based and highly recommends that those without much research experience should not apply. But since you've been in a PhD program, that might not be too much of a problem for you. 😉 You can also take undergrad courses at Northwestern or the University of Chicago as a non-degree student.

Edit:

Northwestern's site: http://www.northwestern.edu/neurobiology/ms/

Loyola's site:

Northwestern:

Is anyone aware of someone who has done U. of Chicago's post-graduate program? It's expensive, but I think may be cheaper than Rosalind Franklin. And I wonder if it would give you a little bit more flexibility in applying to other Chicago schools, U. Chicago itself, Rush, Northwestern.

medanthgirl,

You might want to try shooting a PM to LaurieB--she did postbac studies at the University of Chicago.

Thanks Phil_Anthropist!! much appreciated!

Here's a link to a post I made about the UofC program:

I'm no expert like Phil when it comes to comparing programs, but UofC worked really well for me. I am happy to answer any questions you might have.

Were your classes at U of C during the day? I am in the process of interviewing for a job there, and hope to make use of their tuition reimbursment if i get a job. However, I would only be able to take classes in the evening. Is this possible?

If I'm not being to nosy, what was your GPA at U of C?

Did you get a certficate at the end or just went a-la-carte?

Did you take all graduate credit?

Do you credit your work at U of C with your acceptance?

GPA - Don't remember for sure, but something like a 3.3
No certificate, just a-la-carte courses to finish my prereqs
Took undergraduate credit courses for prereqs and two grad courses for fun

UofC was a great place to finish my prereqs. As for getting in, that was a combination of luck, decent MCAT scores, a great advisor at UofC, hard work, and salesmanship.

UofC probably isn't the place for grade boosting or MCAT prep (I took a Princeton review course for that). In my opinion it is a good place for finishing prereqs and getting good advising. Be sure to look around and find the best place and program for your needs. Phil has put out some really good advice about different programs. He should start charging folks.

Most classes are in the day, but check out their timeschedule: http://timeschedules.uchicago.edu/ and see for yourself. They may have some classes later at night. You should also also see if your future boss will let you take classes during lunch.

Good luck!
