I am wondering if applicants have had post-interview e-mails or letters from programs, either in response to their thank-you notes or their "I love you, ranking you #1" notes, stating that they are ranked to match or anything like this. I have had one program state this, and most others have just been generic comments.

Thanks in advance.

So you're saying a program told you you're rtm? You can't throw that out and not give us any clues. 😎

Most of the programs I applied to have integrity, so no

I went to two interviews. The first never said anything. Didn't even tell me I didn't get the job until I asked. No reasons provided.

The second and last interview was on a Friday. They called me on Monday to offer the position.

Out of curiosity, what's the acceptance rate like? ie. How many people apply and how many of them get accepted yearly? Just roughly.

It doesn't work like that. For info google 2011 NRMP charting outcomes.

This guy is probably talking about fellowship. looks like he's a resident, and this is the resident forum after all....

I've gotten an email from a program saying they would "rank me highly". Not sure too many other programs have done the same so I'm going to keep which program a secret for now.

I think I may know which program you're talking about. Everyone that interviews at that place gets a letter the afternoon of the interview day saying the residents and attendings were "VERY impressed" with you as an applicant. If you send them a thank you email, they replied to it late saying they were ranking you highly. Everyone I know got these emails. In fact, some got the first email with the title having "FW:____" in it...no joke. Same thing was sent to everyone.

Well now you have to say where since they send it to everyone?

49ers, we may be talking about different programs. Mine was an email a couple of weeks after my interview, and none of my 8 classmates who interviewed at the same location got the email. This was not a program I sent a "Thank You" letter/email to, either.

Why would you assume based on the vague statement he gave that it must be, or is likely to be, the program you are thinking? A huge variety of programs could say that same thing...

Cause he's goin to the super bowl, brah. Are YOU goin to the super bowl?

Has anyone received any disheartening responses to their "intent to rank #1" letters? My fellow classmate applied to mostly NYC/Cali/Boston programs and the response he got from his #1 basically just said "Thank you for your kind words. Best of luck in the future!"

He didn't seem too concerned about it but it sounds to me like they don't want him lol

If you're sending letters to programs hoping to have them hint at where you fall on the match list, I suspect you will be disappointed more often than not. It's simply safer for both parties to be non-committal.

And when it comes to over-analyzing emails, I just think of this comic: http://www.phdcomics.com/comics/archive.php?comicid=1047
