I was just wondering how many of us are out there. I know it's not exactly the overwhelming favorite.

If yes, do you know what field/topic you want to go into?

I'm thinking about immunology/auto-immune diseases or something genetics related.

Any thoughts?

I'm sure that I will do something research related. Ideally I would love to split my time between bench work and clinical medicine, though I'm not sure yet how I can swing that. Especially since I will need to pay off a ton of student loan debt. I will probably work in industry for awhile post-vet school.

My areas of interest are infectious diseases and molecular genetics

I wasn't, until I got a research job! Not sure if it's what I want to pursue, but it's certainly more interesting than my original impression. 🙂

Yeah. My interests are in small animal (and possibly equine) genetics and genomics. I'm interested in analysis and segregation of complex traits (particularly behavioral traits and susceptibility to pathogens and drugs) and relatedly in how inbreeding depression affects breeds (so probably a lot of repro & immunogenetics). I plan on an academic path at the moment, if possible.

My MS thesis research is closely related and I also have some stuff tentatively lined up to do if I do a STAR project after my first year of vet school next summer.

You can help me identify the large urethra gene in cats so we can selectively breed for male cats that won't block. 😀

There is just so much I want to do, but so far I have narrowed down my research interest to zoonotic emerging infectious diseases. I want to be a field veterinarian and travel the world (esp to third world countries) developing vaccines, setting up surveillence programs and discovering new pathogens. I hope to someday work in the Special Pathogens Branch of the CDC!

Interesting topic!

I think I definitely want to incorporate research into my career, though I'm not sure in what capacity. Ideally, half-clinical and half-research 🙂

As for the field: behavior all the way!!!
