I'm trying to determine which books are must-haves for second year. Any recommendations? I hear other threads talking about big robbins pathology. What is the exact title of this book? There seems to be more than one robbins pathology book and and I can't figure out which one to buy. Thanks.

Also, what's a good book for pharm--for the boards and during the course?

Big Robbins is a joke. If you read everything in it you are wasting your time, probably for class and definitely for boards. I used "medium Robbins" (Basic Path) and was in fine shape.

Go ahead and buy First Aid when the new edition comes out, other people will try to tell you different but it is totally money for boards (especially for pharm). Don't try to start your board prep on day 1 of M2 (you won't keep it up) but it doesn't hurt to page through FA and get an idea of what's important.

BRS Path is also great to have, both for class and boards.

First Aid for the USMLE Step 1.

All other books are debatable. Definitely get one of the Robbins books, doesn't matter which one -- I liked the big one and learned the most from it, got nothing from 'baby Robbins' and didn't bother with the in-between.

BRS Pathology is also widely used as a Step 1 study book. A few people use Goljan instead, but BRS is great and I don't know anything about Goljan from personal experience.
