Any residents willing to pm with me about whether or not to go to med school?

Hi,

I'm 28, had another career, non-trad, pre-med, and am giving myself the deadline of June 1 to decide whether or not to apply for this cycle. I'm really, really having a hard time deciding. There are so many issues.

Any resident with a bit of time on their hands willing to PM with me--listen to my pros and cons about med school and offer advice, being old-timers through the long medical path and all?

post for all of us to see. There are more people reading these things than you think, and I am in the middle of the same decision as well.

I'm a third year student, not a resident, but would happy to share my experience. Feel free to PM me or post more information regarding the pros and cons.

As a side note, in my class there are a few non-trad students with our oldest student starting at age 51. I was 36 when I started med school and had two 2 previous careers before embarking on this path.

I'll be starting residency in July, would be happy to talk with you about it.

Not sure how many opinions you've received already, but I'm willing to offer one more if needed.

I'm a resident--willing to chat with you.

My gut instinct is NO. Get out of this rat race and open your own business NOW.

MS4 here.

Short answer: don't do it.
Long answer: it depends on the specifics of your situation, but you will probably be better off doing something else.

My response would be the same regardless of your age: 28, 58, the traditional 22, etc. Post your actual questions, and they'll be answered: noone has time to outline everything good and bad about a career in medicine. Also check out a few recent threads in "General Residency Issues."
