Anyone know of any descent books to read about the status of medicine today...ie. HMO's, insured vs. uninsured, etc. Thanks.

try anything by susan foote, deborah stone, or dahl. right now i am reading a book on health care reform. it should be exactly what you are looking for. unfortunately it's at home so i'll post the title and author later this evening.

I read a great one a while ago by the former editor of JAMA on what is wrong with the healthcare system, and he makes some interesting suggestions about what to do about it. I believe the title was Severed Trust. I have the book at home, so I'll post all the info later tonight.

Thanks...I'll hang tight.

here's that book title i promised...
it's called "Governing Health: The Politics of Health Policy," the authors are Carol S. Weissert and William G. Weissert.
It's offers a good perspective. Hope this helps!!!

Here's another one you might want to read...not as dense and intimidating as it sounds:

Time to Heal: American Medical Education from the Turn of the Century to the Era of Managed Care -- Kenneth M. Ludmerer

Thanks everyone...it is GREATLY appreciated.
