Hi, I just graduated from UCD and I took a couple workload classes during my freshman year. Do workload classes count towards the GPA? or they are considered as Pass/No Pass classes?

Thanks

Depends on the class, but either way they don't count for GPA. For example, linguistic series are pass/no pass, but classes like wld have letter grades. However, the unit listed for the class is 0 on sisweb, so it won't affect GPA.

no, they don't.

i took workload too my freshman year. make sure you get your transcript from SCC though with your workload classes on it.

AADSAS just calculated my GPA and they include workload classes to the GPA. I asked Linda today and she said workload 57 will be counted towards the GPA.

That's strange. These classes are either pass/no pass or show up as 0 units on sisweb transcript, so how would it be possible to affect GPA?

I know my linguistic classes did not factor into my AADSAS GPA, and same goes for another 2 predents that I know of.

They show up as 0 units in UCD transcript because technically, those aren't UCD classes. They are classes provided by SCC. Therefore, in SCC transcript, these classes have a letter grade, not pass/fail class.

Linguistic classes are pass/fail classes there are no letter grade, but workload 57 is a not pass/fail class.

i see... thanks for the heads up. i'm applying next cycle... good luck!

Any DEMers here from Davis?

DEM? i went to Davis should I know this?!?! Anyways wow i find it odd how there are a number of Davis heads here. Or at least we are very vocal about going to Davis undergrad. But anyways good thing is that from my understanding is that Davis has the reputation of cranking out a lot of dental students so good for us. 👍

Yay for aggies 🙂

I'm been a lurker for so long... class of 2007 and now am a 1st year at IUSD. As for WLD classes.. all I can say is that for the chem wkloads, they don't count toward your gpa at all. At least not when I applied last year.

Good luck!

So I volunteer at the Veterans Hospital dental clinic in SF and one of the new GPRs there is a Davis alumnus. She said that there were 10 people from Davis in her UCSF class. Thats pretty damn amazing I think and great news for me.

this one is going to tufts

i'm not entirely sure about this, but does anyone know if those ICC internships at the communicare clinics count as shadowing hours too for a dentist? or does it just count as an internship?

those are definitely shadowing hours i'd say👍

Thanks!

I have one more question for all the Davis people out there though. Does anyone know if the course MCB120L counts as a biology lab or a chemsitry lab? Cause I've been hearing different things that it only counts as a chemistry lab but that could only be for med schools. I need one year of bio lab and I was hoping maybe MCB120L could count. Anyone know?

MCB 120L is a combination both bio and chemistry. I am pretty sure it counts as a bio lab seeing...

1. It's titled "biochemistry lab"
2. It's from the molecular and cellular biology department
3. Most professors that teach the course are either from the MCB department or biosci deparment.

Hi guys! Fellow aggie here.

Just filling out the UCSF secondary, what are you putting for the biochemistry section on Form A?

Thanks!

awesome! thanks fonz

i wanted to go to Davis for my undergrad, but got rejected so i had to settle on Santa Barbara. Best rejection I ever got, I loved SB and got soo much more out of it.

My room mate was MCB. Bio Sci major here

i saw this thread and had to make an sdn account. i will be attending ucdavis in the fall as a freshman. i cant believe so many davis students choose dentistry. =) im not sure what i should major in...although i know i have time, but i would like to know what you guys think. im interested in EXB and NPB and even cell biology. i declared my major as psych but i heard that doesnt carry a lot of weight...
any thoughts?
thanks!

Not necessarily about the psych major. My friend did the BS in psych and she's starting med school this fall. You'll come to find out that your major really doesn't matter. As long as you complete your pre-reqs with stellar grades, you'll be fine. As it goes for the EXB, NPB, and Cell Bio, I suggest that if those are majors that you really want to do then go for it. Its up to you. Good luck and welcome to Davis...

what is everyones GPA at Davis? I've talked to several people in both pre-med and pre-pharm and it seems to all be on the lower end even for pre-meds ie 3.0-3.5. Is it just me or does Davis hardly give As???

I am from Davis, and my cGPA is 3.3, sci GPA is 3.4, and bcp is 3.6. I think Davis is a difficult school, but as long as you try you can def. do well.

were any of you guys involved in the pre-dental society at davis? and also what kind of internships and research were you guys involved in?

Hi,
I wasnt in the PDS but you can find many internships/shadowing opportunities from the ICC. As for research, this is just something that you will have to email professors individually or find someone that is willing to let you work in his/her lab.

I was in PDS but I found all of my volunteering/internships thru ICC. Just get on the mailing list and you should be fine. Sign up for the quarterly internship raffle through HBS and cross your fingers. I was able to get 6 quarters of UCDMC volunteering through them, and the other 2 dental internships through the mailing list. As for research, I just went to my adviser (Carole at Cell Bio) and asked her for a list of professors looking for assistants. Contact them and explain your situation, and go from there.

Good luck!

this makes me all warm and cozy inside :-D. anyways... i know BIS 102 is our biochem class at davis, but it's only 3 units. UCSF wants a 4 qtr unit biochem class. does this mean I am screwed?

nevermind: just found the answer to that question thanks to Fonz!

i wished i knew i wanted to go dentistry as a career a few months before i graduated or else i would have joined PDS. as for research, i did microbio research since that was my major.

BIS 103 is also biochem related, you can try that instead. Also, if you have taken stuff like MCB 120L or 140L, namely biochem/cell bio labs, I am sure those can be considered as biochem courses asl well.

what about BIS 104? I did better in that than BIS 103

Hmm...I dont know.

I know 140L should be fine because it has quite some overlap with biochem, but 104 is titled "cell biology"...

I know this one also counts, MCB 138, called "seminar in biochemistry".

yeah I don't think 104 is but 102 & 103 are considered the standard biochem classes I'm pretty sure

omg.. seminar? only if i knew...🙁

Haha yea you def. should've. That class was 1 unit pass/no pass. We met for a total of 6 times, each time for 1 hr and 2 group would go up and present some biochem. related article. Essentially as long as you show up and do the presentation, you'll pass that class. Imo one of the easiest one unit seminars ever...but I didnt learn crap though....

bump for my question #31. So it's true that many people from Davis only have like 3.0-3.5 gpas?

UC Deeeee,
So i saw this thread and couldn't help but to represent.
