I know that the board is meeting on Thurs. but my mind is going crazy . Any inside info. anyone? I am currently working as a dental assistant in Ontario, Canada and would like to look for a better clinic with higher pay and better hours but bec. I am waiting for this exam I don't want to just get a new job and quit in a short time should I be called to take the exam...

it's also demotivating to practise any preps not to mention costly...

hmmm amy news?😱

Donot Worry guys Bill is gonna pass..It is just going thru process cause Sen Figurea wants to change Codes. Dates are going to remain same. I spoke with Dental Board of California thru my source in the board....RT exam will be held in 2004...Good luck to all of you..

"If u r on F1 in USA then u r not restricted by H1 quota and u will get H1 with a job offer."

Raj- I haven't heard of it before. My impression is H1 quota ( 65000 per year) is applicable to everyone, including F1 students.

i moved here in canada from manila july 2001. i am currently a permanent resident and i can apply for canadian citizenship this year but the whole process from the time you apply until you're finally granted the citizenship is approx. 10 months so my plan is really to wait for my citizenship even if i am able to clear the california exam sooner

also a friend of mine who cleared last year found a full time job and was sponsored on a full time basis by a dentist in L.A. with no problems even though she too was just a canadian resident

as for minnesota i was deemed ineligible to qualify bec. since i moved to canada 2001 i didn't meet their requirement of being able to practise at least 18 mos. in the last 3 years

as for quebec, i have found no info. that allows foreign grads to take the board exam without going back to school. i know that was permitted prior to 2000 but now the whole of canada has only one licensing body that states we must go through a 2 year qualifying program before being eligible to take the board exam

if my info. is wrong can you direct me to the right website? everything seems to be in French at the Quebec website!

"In fact colleges and universities use quite a small proportion of all available H-1B's in any given year, and as of Oct. 2000, they are no longer subject to the yearly quota............."

Colleges and Universities use small proportion of H1B visa, as employers as compared to industries.

Consider first sentence- "The use of H-1B visas is of concern not just to universities but to industry in general. In fact colleges and universities use quite a small proportion of all available H-1B's in any given year, and as of Oct. 2000, they are no longer subject to the yearly quota."

Until recently (oct 2000,) Universities were subjected to a 'cap' or (quota) limiting a number of H1 visa , Now Universities and colleges ( as employers) exempt from this cap.

I remember, few weeks back, Intel demaded to exempt students with US degree from H1B cap.
If this happens, it would be great for all F1 students and also for industries & universities. As of now, it seems we have to compete among ourselves.

Ok, this sounds very interesting. Where could I find more info about that explorer? Thanks.

Meggs,
I read it on www.samachar.com , it is a portal of major Indian newspapers.
The news was either on Indian Express or Times of India.
and these two newspapers usually post latest news on H1B issue.
I tried to search archives of those newspapers, but couldn't find the exact news.
If I could find it, I will post it.

No news yet as of now. Everyone is saying that the bill has a good chance of passing, so I guess it would be wise to ease into doing a few preps now, mommyr. Maybe one or two a week. Won't hurt. Read your PM, mommyr.
