I have been very fortunate and have been accepted to three medical schools. I am ready to mentally wind down the application process, but there are still two schools at which I would really like to interview and have been complete for several months with no word.

Do I have any options to find out if I am still under consideration at these schools?

In the area email: Not possible because both are very near to me.
Update letter: Nothing really to update them on
Letter of interest or letter of intent: Are these of any value before an interview?
Simply contacting school and asking for an interview: seems way too forward.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

From what I've read, "in the area" works the best. But that doesn't help you.

Some schools (Wake) like you to express interest. So maybe just give the admissions office a call and politely ask for a "detailed description of your status" or something like that. It probably won't work, but it can't hurt.

Usually you ask for an interview by submitting a secondary and paying them a bunch of money. So, if I hear what you are saying, this isn't working. I recommend just sending them more money. There is nothing like getting a Letter of Rec from Ben Franklin.

I have to say, this is the best joke I've heard in a long time.

I heard he writes much better letters than George Washington 👍

can anyone imagine what would happen if it were possible to "ask" for an interview to speed up the process? I just have this vision of thousands of gunners calling up the med schools incessantly, more so than the usual status checks they must be inundated with... yikes

call WF and ask for one. thats how i got it there.

Very funny guys, but seriously... does anyone have any advice that does not involve actions that could be perceived as bribery? 🙂

I really want an interview and will probably contact the schools in some form since doing nothing certainly hasn't helped. I do think I am competitive at these schools since I have already gotten into comparably ranked schools, but I also understand every school looks for different things, that there's an element of randomness, and that I'm certainly not "entitled" to an interview. Just hopeful... What can I do at this point?

Silly me, I thought you were asking for an interview when you submit the primary and secondary.

I use "ask" in quotes as a hyperbole. My meaning is really how to (1) know if I'm still under consideration at this point and (2) if so, increase my chances for an interview within the coming months.

To answer: 1) if you have not been rejected, you are still under consideration. 2) According to the dean of admissions at my state school; LOI, Other letters of acceptance, or anything besides updates such as grades, MCAT, or clinical experience bears no weight in their decision, period. Now I know others have stories about they got an invite after sending so and so, but according to the dean they would have invited anyways.

Be patient, the process will unfold like it should

Just show up and take someone else's spot, forcibly if necessary. Survival of the fittest...

desperation is never a good look.

I have heard from some people who dont have great GPA/MCAT that once they send their primary applications, they send a letter/email to the Deans of certain schools asking for an interview. They go on to say how numerically they might be the greatest candidates, but that its really not reflecting all of what they have to offer. I guess some or most schools screen by a certain GPA/MCAT cut off so by writing this letter they ask for a chance. For some of my friends it has functioned, POINT, they are not all URMs, but one.

What do you think of this?

It's worked for me now several times. The only problem is the back round noise.:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
