My parents were born in Trinidad. We're Indian though.
So are you in the middle of the applications process?

Im from Trinidad, bigup Diego Martin, been here since '88. Love it here, but go back for Carnival every year, except this one. I was so vex, because my cousin went and rubbed it in my face when I got back.

Funny thing I put white on apps and born in trinidad, and got some funny looks at interviews. " I thought you would be black, being from Trinidad"

Whappen LorinE and tazdevil52. It's good to hear from you. I guess you can say that I'm in the end stage of the app. process. I found out on Friday that I got into Pitt and I'm really happy. I have no more interviews since Howard lost my info 🙄 and Cornell won't give me the time of day 🙁 . So what's up with both of you?

what does "West Indian" mean again?

Generally it means anyone from the West Indies (i.e. the Caribbean island region). But specifically it refers to the people from the English and French speaking islands: Jamaica, Trinidad, Haiti, etc.

I'm a Trini, applying this year ... are you guys who got accepted (congrats!)international students or have green cards/citizens??

U.S. citizen - thank God my parents had the foresight to move here fifteen years ago and apply the minute we arrived. Got it ten years ago, and it has been a blessing. I have lots of cousins who come for college and have to worry about visas, and paperwork and finding a job that will sponsor tthem after college or its back to Trinidad they go. It is a nightmare nowadays, I had a cousin who had to go back for a semester because his grades dropped and he didn't pass a class and went on academic probation, something like that.

I applied as a permanent resident but I don't think it affects interviews/acceptances. I think the only time (green card vs citizen) may matter is when it comes to certain scholarships/loans. But I don't know how the international student thing works but from what I've heard from friends it can be a hassle, so I think Tazdevil52 may be right with that point
