Well, the premed years have been full of one setback after another, and just as I was starting my very last mandatory prerequisite (the 2nd ochem lab), I fell on poorly repaired cobblestones and snapped the tip off my left ankle (lateral malleolus fracture). Its the middle of winter, I'm slow on crutches, I'm looking at six to eight weeks in a cast, I'm scared of falling again, it looks like I won't be interviewing again for awhile since I can't afford any outta state travel at the moment, and I don't have a single acceptance in-state (only waitlists). Is anyone else out there dealing with broken bones on top of everything else?

yep, broke my left foot (base of the 3rd and 4th metetarsals) on Dec. 8th. Hopefully will be healed enough not to gimp around during interviews.

I tried awfully hard to break my ankle Monday but managed only a really terrible sprain. The doc says my toes will turn purple eventually - at least something cool will come from this experience!!! 🙂

Yikes, Sorry to hear you all are having physical problems. that stinks

2 ribs, 10 days before the MCAT.

No broken bones, but 4 herniated discs on an erg (rowing machine, for all you non-crew folks)

Torn ACL week I took SAT, ACT
Broken thumb on dominant hand right week before MCAT
Partial torn achilles tendon during retake of MCAT
I see a trend here...perhaps I like to make sure I will be in pain during standardized testing just to make it challenging:idea:

technically yes... my doctor broke my septum in several places to straighten it, and rotorootered my sinuses (septoplasty/sinus surgery)... fortunately, I had a two month break in interviews.

to the OP: good luck with everything, I found that walking on crutches in the winter got easier with practice... I know how hard it can be to deal with this stuff when you're health is poor.

oohh do we get to talk about all the fun stuff that happens to us??? i'm only a soph, haven't gone through the app. process yet, but i have many injuries to share. i'll only share my college stories though, going all the way back would be too long.

fresh year- dislocated shoulder, right before school started. i started my college life with my arm in a sling.
- torn ligaments in my wrist
- swollen nerve in the back of my skull that was apparently pressing down on my brain. very painful i might add.

soph year (now)- Grade 3 ankle sprain
- right after it mostly heals, grade 3 ankle sprain #2 after slipping on ice, on the same ankle
- dislocated my left knee (but it popped in by itself) before my right ankle healed from the most recent ankle sprain.

oh, and if i keep spraining my ankle like that, surgery is a possibilty. at least, that's what my doc said, i think he was trying to scare me into being more graceful.

A freakish eye condition caused my retina to detach, leading to 80% blindnesss in one eye for nearly a month during 1st year university.

Last summer, a day and a half before my PhD candidacy exam, I got my appendix out. I was lucky to get it rescheduled for a week later, but I still don't know how I managed to do so well.

Hopefully, the stress of this application cycle won't lead to any more random health emergencies for me!

😉
