Anybody else feel like they would have a hard time going to doctor’s office again if denied at all med schools?

Basically thread title. Especially if it was right within grasp but you messed it up. How would it be possible to go see a doctor when a simple checkup triggers intense self loathing and ressentiment. Maybe after the first unsuccessful cycle, it would be possible for the little voice in your head to reassure that “don’t worry, you’ll get in next time.” But after two…three. Then what? Does every medical appointment lead to month long periods of self pity and inferiority based trauma?

Anybody been through this? Asking for a friend.

Lmao, normal people either get into med school or just move on with their lives. I know it seems central to your life now, but if you did give up after a few unsuccessful cycles, you would eventually just move on with your life. Tons of people give up on becoming a doctor and go on to live great, happy lives where they are glad things went the way they did. No healthy person would wallow about it forever, and eventually, you're just gonna need medical care. It's not like the doc treating you knows or cares that you were interested in medicine at one point in your life.

I think that if I didn’t get in, I would only be somewhat content if I could become at least a portfolio manager at a hedge fund. But buy side finance requires sell side finance experience and most banks don’t hire premed type majors with no internships. 🙁:kitty:

If not getting into medical school is seriously such a traumatizing ordeal, I think you may have some self-reflecting to do. Most people who do not get into medical school transition into other careers one way or another. If you get to the point where you are so resentful and bitter that you can't see a doctor for a simple check-up, I am sure that bitterness will carry through to other areas of your life. Best you get that mentality fixed.

It's a job, my friend. It's great, don't get me wrong. I wouldn't want to be doing anything else. But it's a job. And no job is worth the emotional weight that you are placing onto your shoulders.

Work hard, give it your best, and hope that it works out. If not, try again. If the road ends, move on and be happy. Lots of other jobs can give you slices of what you are looking for. Good luck!

I understand, @voxveritatisetlucis. <3 I empathize with that and am glad you brought it up. *hugs*

Personally, I regret telling one of my treating physicians because I am going to be embarrassed to tell her if things don't work out and she asks about it specifically. Her intentions are good and she's just trying to be nice, but I feel shy and a little awkward about it.
