Anybody else interested in Orthopedics?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
ah this must be a good sign -

I am quite interested in this field but there arent many threads on this field. What year are you ?

Now a general question, ive been told that ortho is quite competitive and research is necessary. How much research, what kind of research, etc would be needed to get into this field. People say to just research the summer between MS1 and MS2 but 2months doenst seem to be enough for anything significant. Also, how do you do those peer-review publications? Im kind of lost with this whole process.

MS1 for me so im just starting out with this whole process

after orientation I found something quite interesting---- Almost everyone I run into says they want to go into Orthopedics.

medicalstudent9 - How much research did you do during your first 2 years? Was it clinical or lab?

imo, many of the guys who are intent on doing this field as MS1 come across as tools.

There needs to be more women in orthopedics also. It is one of the most unbalanced fields still.

Hi Carrigallen! Long time, no see!

Maybe its because there are so many tools (buzzsaws, drills, measurement devices etc.) in the field-- so like attracts like

Seriously, though I think ur right about the m/f ratio being out of whack--maybe because trad it required a lot of strength to deal with bone setting and cutting(?)

Galen :luck:

i heard some ridiculous rumor that people get asked how much they bench in residency interviews for ortho...i'm presuming thats a bit of a stretch

so girls cant be tools if they want to go into this?

i shadowed a female orthopod this summer and she rocked! (and she's a DO)
how rare, right? female DO orthopod ---- my hero.

women surgeons, in general, are pretty awesome.

i'm interested in ortho, but i have yet to take boards (i'm an MSII); right now, i'm just getting my nerd on...

Anyone happen to know the ave. board score for DO ortho programs?

Why??

If I get more than 240 on Step 1- maybe ill be interested in ortho. My mind has changed like so many times. As an ms1 i was into anesthesia and EM, then second semester I was thinking radiology and opthamology. Now thinking about general surgery, plastic or ortho.... ahhaha
