got a skinny envelope from Vandy yesterday...feared it was a rejection already..turned out to be an interview invite...there is hope..keep hope alive!! :thumbup:

you know, i really don't even know what to make of vandy anymore. some people on SDN got interview invites today and yesterday, so now they're sending out invites and rejections at the same time.

if vandy actually decides to mail something to me, i will be very suspicious :scared:

So I'm innocently working in the lab today, checking my e-mail every, oh I don't know...30 Seconds?....and seeing that a bunch of peeps got good Vandy mail today. When I got home and found the envelope I did a premature happy dance. Evil B***ards! At least I have the Mayo call Thursday morning, if it was tomorrow I might still be cranky...
 
Call Vandy..make up some good excuse for calling like

"should i wait til i receive my secondary to send my letters of rec. or should i send them now?"

they'll tell you to wait until you receive the 2ndary..you keep them on the phone for a while, sounding all congenial, etc and see if you can find out when/if you're getting a secondary...hey, it's worth a shot..

thanks for answering my PM, LRmed2003.

i tried that EXACT tactic you described last week. i did the whole "i'm just calling to confirm that you have my LORs" bit, and i got nuthin'. the woman i spoke to was quite firm (although nice) in saying that i would hear in 4-6 weeks one way or the other. wow, so much help. :rolleyes:

i haven't lost hope, but i'm annoyed as hell. :mad:
 
i have avoided the bullet yet another day. maybe tomorrow, it will be a magical bullet that will take me to nashville. or maybe it will be a bad bullet that will take me to state school. :eek:
 
what did i receive from vandy today...(drumroll please)....NOTHING! haha (rimshot!).

the wait continues, the hate grows... :smuggrin:
 
devil, i have an idea, and since you have better stats than me, you shall be the guinea pig. call vanderbilt, but instead of piddling around with asking about addresses, status, etc., just say. "Hi, this is superdevil, I am calling to schedule my interview." Worst case scenario, you weren't getting an interview. best case scenario, you have an interview and you know. i shall sit back and live vicariously through your adventures while waiting by my mailbox.
 
I cant find the status check on Vandy's website. Does anyone have a link to that? Is there a status check?

haha; but UC's for example allow you to see where your application is in their process. Id like to see if Vandy recieved everything yet, so just curious if there is a page on their site that will allow you to see this by entering amcas number etc....

no, nothing online, some people got emails saying everything was complete, most did not. most of the people who have interviews never even got status complete emails from what i can tell. like i said, the only status check is your mailbox. and even then, the invitations and rejections both apparently come in thin envelopes. oh, the horror.

:laugh: seriously funny, that. i'll probably try that sometime next week. i guess we'll have to see how long my patience lasts before i break down and call them again. although if i call them again, the conversation will likely be as follows...

admissions lady (losing patience): oh, really? the internet? like i told you before, you will hear from us 4-6 weeks after we download your AMCAS, but i won't tell you when that was, because that information is classified, and i hate you.

superdevil (enveloped by childish hissy-fit): fine! you're a stupid-head! i didn't even want to go to your ugly, smelly school full of jerks anyway! (crying ensues)... :oops:

anyway, i'm sorry about the rejection. i know a dude from my school who got in with stats just like yours, so i wonder what they're looking for when they scan the AMCAS app's to grant interviews...

I'm so sorry you didn't get a secondary. With stats like yours, I don't know what the heck they must be thinking.

A msg to devil: i think that the writing is on the wall for us. nobody has received an interview in the last few days, only rejection letters. our applications were processed early (at least mine was) and it doesn't look like they have a maybe stack, hence the 4-6 or 6-8? week timeframe. i'm assuming they have looked at ours, and our letters will arrive in the next few days. maybe even today, im in miami and haven't gone home to check my mail today. i'm trying to stay optimistic, but whatchu think?

is the writing on the wall? well, probably. i was processed 7/7, so its been almost 6 weeks since my AMCAS was done (not that they downloaded it right away, i really have no clue when vandy got it--so the "6 weeks" thing may or may not be accurate).

at this point, i must concede that i've lost my optimism (d'oh! i wrote my personal statement on optimism! :laugh: ). at best, they've selected us for interviews then sat on our app's until all the good interview dates were taken. or, at worst, vandy hustles to invite the people they care about, and they don't really give a sh.t when the rejects hear from them. either way, they're slowly falling down my list of choices...
 
does vanderbilt read the pers statement or do they go just by numbers when deciding who to grant interviews/secondaries too.....
 
At this point I almost wouldn't mind receiving a rejection from them just to know for sure one way or the other.

I would think they must read the PS since they're going on nothing else besides the AMCAS for granting interviews.

i just got home from work. the whole time i was driving back, i was preparing myself for "the letter", but i seem to have dodged the bullet for another day at least. devil, i don't think they mind sitting on rejections. However, being that i dodged today's bullet, i am developing a new theory. perhaps since we haven't gotten rejections, they are just holding us for the next wave of interview invites (for october). if i don't get a rejection in the next few days, that will become my theory. until then, i'm going to be really nervous every time i check the mail.

you guys seem to be really tripping out over these secondaries...is vandy your first choice or something, or is it like this for you with every school you applied? Im not hating, but dodging bullets, and have un-confirmed confirmable theories seems excessive, no?

Yeah I was thinking about that, maybe they keep a few apps to the side and wait for the August MCAT people to send in their AMCAS apps before making the decision.

Nah, I think it's just that this is like the only school that some of us have heard nothing from. I've received or know I'll be receiving (or not receiving) secondaries from all the schools I've applied to except Vandy. So naturally I'm curious about whether I will be or won't be receiving it eventually.

Also, the fact that Vandy only gives secondaries to people it interviews makes it a pretty great secondary to receive :)

or maybe all of our letters are lost in the mail. That'd be a huge coincidence, but you never know. Maybe they forgot to send our batch or our batch got misplaced.

since i only applied to 11 schools, knowing whether or not i'm getting an interview or a rejection is a big deal to me. maybe some people just tack on schools for the sake of applying to a million, but i gave careful though to the schools i applied to. if by speculating as to why everyone seems to have either gotten an interview or rejection that was processed around the same time i was makes me "excessive", then so be it. and if you don't like my conspiracy theories, then go read the vanderbilt website where you can find answers to most of the questions you have asked.

I didnt mean any disrespect by asking; you should stop assuming im being somehow accusatory b.c you have in the past also. Im the most tolerant person you'll meet and I understand human motivations differ from person to person based on experience and I respect that more than most; part of what i learned through neurobio. If you feel stressing about it help, maybe it does. Just curious why, is all i asked...

Personally, to me, almost ANY school I get into would be a 1st choice :D

The reason I'm so anxious to year back from Vandy is that it would give me some sort of idea of how I'm faring in med school application casino...

In addition to the fact that Vandy is a great school!
 
So I run out to the mailbox... hoping that today is the big day when I hear from Vandy... All for nothing... I guess no news is good news.

Has anybody else heard from Vandy lately regarding the secondary/interview?

man, I had my application processed in early july and I called them and they said that my application had not been reviewed yet. That pisses me off. Do you think me applying md/mba had something do with that?
 
I was processed 8/2...so I guess I'll have to wait for at least another month before I get my vandy rejection...

wow, they are taking that long to review? But others that were processed that early i think have heard back; then again maybe it was only the june apps that have heard back so far....
