Anybody taking MCATs AGAIN with already having a decent score?

I got a a decent score, BUT I want a good/great school (California). My GPA is decent. I believe I can do better with the MCAT...anybody else down to do the same?

Yeah I know this is more MCAT related then applications, but some ppl here got August scores back as well!

Don't retake the MCAT if you're not 100% sure you will improve. If you're scoring consistently over 30 on your practice tests, then go ahead and retake. Keep in mind that stats are only part of medical school admission. Spend your time on EC. Do research and get publish. Do a medical mission in South America. Shadow a doctor...whatever. My point is, you HAVE the stats to get in so spend your time on getting some unique EC to make your application stand out.

BTW...if you go to patti at the career center..you would hear the same thing.

GO BEARS!!!!

I've just gotten my first rejection and am contemplating the idea of retaking the MCAT with a 31Q. I'm hoping this is just temporary insanity that will pass upon receipt of my first rejection somewhere....

I'm going to give myself until January and if I haven't heard from anywhere by the time the quarter/semester starts up again, I'm going to study anyway. If I end up getting in somewhere after I start studying, I've got that much more preparation for med school, right? 😕

like one of the previous posters just said, just work on your ECs. especially if you already have a 31 MCAT. And like u said, it's still early .... schools still have a few months to give interview invites.

i received a 38 the first time. 38 is number considered bad luck in my herd so i retook and received a 42. thank god because had i scored one point higher, it would have been considered blasphemy which results in castration.

I took the Aug 03 MCAT and ended up with a 29. I finished off some of the premed requirements, retook it in Apr 04, and got a 32. If you feel that you can improve, and if you were comsistently scoring 30+ on the practice tests, then go for it.

I am just tired of seeing people with a lot higher scores and comparable ECs getting rejected. I have enough things against me (as in part of my GPA is from a JC), that I feel I can improve if I study a lot harder. When I took the test in August I hadn't covered all the material I wanted. I was also consistently getting 9s on my verbal, and I still think I can improve on that. My bio was also in the 11-12 range... I dunno, I don't want to waste my life studying for this test either...but I fell that if I don't do it now, then I will regret it...
