I've been on every career-related website and have had very little luck finding open Au.D positions. I really want to end up in the Northeast Ohio area so that I can be close to family but that may not be possible. Is it just me or are audiology jobs in short supply? Anybody else worried about employment after graduation?

Well finding and Au.D job won't be a problem for 3-4 more years for me so I'm not worried yet. But, most of the statistics for graduate programs I've looked at have a 100% employment rate within a year of graduating. That being said, i'm not sure how many find a position where they want it.

Hi -

I don't really know what the requirements are for a clinical specialist position at Advanced Bionics - but I met with one today in clinic, and they said that they currently have 6 positions open throughout the country. She said that there is vigorous training, which doesn't mean you'll pass and eventually get the job - but never-the-less, there are openings.

If you're interested in CI's at all, you should contact them.

Good luck!

Postings for audiology positions do seem to be wanting. ASHA's website only seems to average 7 nationally at a time. Prospects seem better using Indeed.com, however.

I, myself, have never been been able to get a handle on just how many jobs, at any given time, for Audiologists there are out there, and if this is considered an "in-demand" profession.

There are plenty of jobs available in the current audiology market. You just have to look in the right places. Monster.com and the like will not have many if any Audio jobs. We are a very small field and many jobs are only advertised on field related sites. Try looking at HearCareers on the AAA website and Audiologyonline.com. I just looked at Audiologyonline a few a days ago and there at least 50 jobs advertised across the country. I hope that helps.

Generally in the field there are always jobs available IF you are willing to relocate. If you are tied to one particular city or region it can be a little tougher. I have been in the field for 10+ years and have never seen a student not get a job within a reasonable amount of time from graduation. Most already have jobs locked up prior.

Just an interesting fact -

When I took a campus visit last May, they said that all of the graduating AuDs had jobs lined up except for 2, who were deciding which job to take.

Basically the employment outlook is good!

Hopefully that means the students are utilizing their newly-minted degrees and not taking lesser employment in the field.

Jobs are aplenty for audiologists. By the time you're done with your 4 years, you'll have contacts all over the place for jobs. These aren't 'lesser employment' either. Demand for audiologists will only grow with the babyboomers hitting their 60s. So don't worry, just because you can't find things on Monster doesn't mean they aren't out there. Most positions are filled before the employer must resort to posting in those venues.
