I was recently accepted to one of my top choice schools, and make no mistake, I am very grateful and excited. However, I was rejected from a different school a couple weeks later and still feel pretty bummed out about it.

It kinda feels like being rejected by a girl/boy when you already have another person you are dating that is significantly more attractive. Even though you are happy with what you have, you wonder why your not good enough for that person (school).

Can anyone else relate? and please don't respond with "You should just be happy with being accepted" That's not the issue because it is clear that I AM very happy.

Emo much?

After getting accepted to a school pretty high up my list I simply withdrew from all schools that I personally ranked beneath it, so they couldn't reject me if they wanted to. 😀

Nope, I still got rejected from GW after I withdrew my application there. So they can still reject you.

I think I will do this. I had the delusion that I was actually going to be accepted to this school outright. HA.

Just from the nature of people who are accepted to med school (both the good and the bad ones), EVERYONE is disappointed by rejections. Even if holding an acceptance to a better school or if the school was a major reach.

The good thing about having another acceptance is that you can pretend like you don't care. But, you do.

Heard on NPR a few weeks ago that being rejected apparently causes physical pain equivalent to spilling a hot cup of coffee on yourself.

this doesn't make sense, if your into your top choice then nothing else matters. pop the dom and put it all down

I feel like I like what you are saying, but reality, I have no idea what this means. And if you don't respond to explain this lilting turn of phrase, I will almost certainly start using it in my everyday life anyway.

"Dude, last night I got shwasted and totally popped the dom - it was choice brah!"

haha my fault. Dom Perignon is some stupid over priced champagne that fancy people drink. For people who hate money, or college kids who are trying to celebrate something?

You'd probably recognize the label on the bottle.

this thread makes me sad, OP please re-visit this thread in the future and realize how dbaggery this is, there are people out there who don't even have interviews yet.

The thread is now about awesome halloween costumes:

No, something is wrong with you. You cannot win them all.

Yah if I was accepted to my top choice I'd pretty much withdraw from the majority of my schools and open up a bottle of champagne.

That ewok costume is amazing. I want my nephews to be that!

Also, being rejected will sting, no matter what school does the rejecting.

I would agree with this, if you're rejected post-interview. I told my friend last night that applying to medical school is like dating 30 people at once.

hahah i'm going to say that and give you no credit for thinking of it

Totally agree.

Ignore the ego and be happy that you got accepted to your top choice. Easier said than done, of course, but keep the bigger picture in mind.

Rejections definitely suck, it's always hard to see effort go to waste. However, after you're attending your top choice, you'll forget about the rejections pretty quickly.

Slowpoke is completely right, OP is being insensitive to others because many people do not even have an acceptance at all.

OP:

You should be making use of your remaining freedom before the start of med school at your "top choice" med school.

You should completely disengage from the cycle. Stop coming to SDN. Withdraw from the "lesser" schools you applied to.

Go out and have some fun. Travel...whatever.

Because once you start med school, you will be on a treadmill with no exit ramps for the next 7+ years...
