I'm going to be applying next year but have never had a paying job. I've got volunteer and some community service, just no job. Does this look bad?

lol i am in high school and i have a job! j/k

sure there must be other ppl here who dint have a "paying" job. My cousin down in Atlanta never had a job in his life, and he is now 25! Freeloads from his parents 🙄 . If your parents are rich and willing to give out the cash then its no biggey.

i dont think it's a big deal. someday i hope to have enough money that my kids don't have to worry about paying for school. that said, the best part of my interview was when i told my interviewer that i put myself through school. he asked me a lot of questions on that and said that he was very impressed. my advice to you, don't ever do anything b/c you think it might look good. do it b/c you love it. so i wouldn't get a job (especially one that doesn't make you happy) just to put it down on your resume.

exactly!! Get a job cuz you want to have one for whatever reason. My dad tried to make it his business to make me not work as long as I had all A's. This may not work for some people, but I geuss this was set up in my head for as far as I can remember so it was just a part of me. However, summer after high school I got a job waiting tables, and now Junior year, summer after Junior year in college and all of senior year I have had a library job. Not because it looks good, but because I want some money to be able to do stuff. To be able to go out and eat every Fri and Sat and buy drinks on the weekends and pay for books and fix my broke bike and anything else that I would hate to have to freeload off of my parents for. When I wasn't working I was serisouly studying and not really worried about going out and spending more money than I had.
Respect!

eh, I had like research, TA, and EMT but when it came to filling out UCSD- I was like holy moly, I have used all of those for the other sections.

for me i thought it was important to have work experience simply for me to learn to stay grounded and know what a dollar is worth... my parents have been nice enough to pay for everything so far and forever into the future but i don't want to live off of them if i can help it... who knows? working a job that you might not love might be character building..
