hey,

Anyone applying there or know someone who matriculated into that school? Are you Canadian or American? IF Canadian, what province are you from?

Thanks

hey Delvonik,

This is going to blow your mind but I was born in a little town in Newfoundland called Cowhead. Maybe you've heard of it? My dad practiced there for about 9 years.

Where are you from?

hey delvonik

I actually used to live in St. John's as well. I went to St. Pius Junior High. Gonzaga is the high school that it is affiliated with. I lived right behind the Balley Halley Golf Course. Do you know where anything that I am describing is? Anyway I moved when I was in Grade 8.

Do you live in St. JOhn's?

Yes isn't it nice to see somebody else who knows about NF?!
kumar: I know many people who go to mun med. If you want to know anything just let me know! btw: Did you go to gonzaga? (That is the school I went to)! Hope to hear back from you!

I think there was a thread a couple of months back about canadian schools which talked quite a bit about MUN. Do an SDN search and I think you'll find it.

I'm applying to NOMS. I'm not canadian..... yet. I have high hopes.

I am from St.John's, Newfoundland, and have applied to MUN med school for Fall 2003. I am a biochemistry senior at the University of Arizona. MUN is a good school w/ a good reputation and best of all is relatively inexpensive. Newfoundland is a great place to live, very laid back, little crime, and very friendly people. Also a bigtime shortage of docs so if you choose to live there you'd practically never be out of a job!

Well, I guess I just wanted to see how many people apply to this university a year. Particularly how many NB residents (I actually am a resident of NB)? Do you know where I could find this type of information?

Also, being from NB, what kind of stats do you need to matriculate. Anyone have any information of average stats for NBers? I know this is an age old question BUT I know Memorial relies more on stats (and residency of course) than other schools.

Also, I have already been accepted to KCOM which is an osteopathic medical school. Where would you rather go? Personally I want to stay in Canada (specifically NFLD). However if I go "DO" I might not be able to come back. Any comments on this??

MUN2005...I didn't go to Gonzaga but my sister did? When did you graduate?

Thanks for any information.....later bye's

Wow! I can;t believe there are so many Newfies on this board 🙂 My girlfriend is actually in her first year at MUN medical school. She likes it. I was just in St. John's two weeks ago for the med school's Monte Carlo night. It was a lot of fun! I'm applying there for next year, and hopefully get in. I really like the shcool,a nd the people are indeed the friendliest I've ever met. Not to mention my girlfriend is there and I would get to be with her again.

To get info for NB residents, you can either check the MUN website, or check out the Canadian Premed Forums by Ian Wong. They are a great resource for applicants to Canadian med shcools.

George street is awesome....had many a swallies over there 😉

Anyway, good luck you guys....MUN is indeed a very numbers oriented shcool (if you are out of province), and do prefer Americans to out of province Canadians-just my observations.

Memorial gets about 750 applicants per year for 60 seats. Of course, this includes Newfoundland, Canadian and International competition. The Newfoundland competition is roughly 200 for 40 seats, and I believe there are 10 seats(?) available to residents of New Brunswick, and then 10 for International. However I could be wrong, you could probably find out from their site, www.med.mun.ca. The average stats of accepted Newfoundlanders is 80% academic average and 27O mcat. However I am sure out of province would be higher than that. IMHO I would choose an MD school first, unless you have a thing for osteopathic medicine. Memorial us a great school, in a great location (in the general hospital), not too big and not a lot of competition between students. I would recommend it too anyone. Hope this helps.

Isn't it strange that 42 of 59 students in first year are female?! Wow, I knew that nowadays there are more females, but I didn't think there are that many.

I'm from the US and graduated from MUN last yr... I'd be happy to field any Q's.
