I'm still trying to decide between schools and was wondering if anyone out there will be a new msph/phd student at unc for epidemiology this fall?

What factors played a role in your final decision?

really...no one out there has chosen unc epi?

i would love to meet possible fellow students 🙂

to be honest, i don't think many on this board applied to unc (or at least got in). the compiled acceptance thread only had 2 people.. i think there were 2 others who didn't post on the compiled thread who were also accepted... but that's about it.

i'll be at unc in the hpaa department next fall.

🙂 what degree program will you be doing?

have you worked out your housing yet?

the mha.

i'm working on that (it's so annoying!) the thought of having to furnish an apartment is both fun and nerve-wrecking. i was contemplating whether or not i should just find someone who's already settled and looking for a roommate for the first year, but i ended up deciding i want to move into a fresh new place. i'm flying down on 4/20 for a day to do some apartment hunting with my dad.

and yourself?

I'm not an Epi student, but am at UNC doing another MPH program (Public Health Leadership/Health Care and Prevention - the one designed for clinicians.) I really like the Epi program here - if I didn't have to finish in a year or if I wanted to go into some field that requires a lot of quantitative analysis, I would have done Epi. I spend a lot of time with the injury epi guys, and may do my last project with them. It's a good department, as is their biostats department. I think I got a good education from both and would consider coming back here for a DrPH.

WRT housing, I live just south of campus off of Columbia and walk to school. It's awesome. I'm not sure if my landlord has rented the place yet, but can PM you his contact info.

Best -

Jenn

i've found a few good possibilities on craigslist so far...i too, am debating moving into a furnished place with a chapel-hill-knowledage roommate, or moving into a new place. my friends at unc say more and more postings will show up on craigslist as we get further into april 🙂

if i move into an unfurnished apartment, it will also be my first time having to buy real (or semi-real ikea) furniture for an entire apartment, and not just my bedroom. though i hear that north carolina is the furniture capital of the world.

If you check my "apartment hunting" thread, you'll see some of the suggestions that other UNC students had recommended.

Furniture capital, but is it your taste? I know it's not mine. I'm not so much into the old, small-furniture store type.

I'll let you know how my apartment search goes next weekend. This would also be my first time of having to buy major pieces of furniture.

for housing listings, i recommend checking the marketplace for the UNC network on Facebook. you can join this network once you get your @unc.edu email address.
