How many stayed in a hotel as opposed to on base?
What's the best way to make sure I get the hotel option? Check in late?
Thank you!

i'm not sure if you already have your orders, but if it's not there, you're not getting it. when i did my basics in 2009, i didn't see any. if it says it'd furnish lodging, it will. if you show up late, you may just end up having to wait in the lobby all day and all night waiting for your assignment, being assigned to a building that is really far away from your classes, or assigned to a room that is the farthest from the lobby. i showed up early, waited a bit, and got a room closest to the lobby on the 1st floor. believe me, if you have to be up by 4 for PT, it does matter.

i liked my room and my roommate (oh, btw, you choose your own roommate, if you have one). the room was enough for 2 (2 twins), w/ a small kitchen w/ utensils, super fast internet, cable TV w/ HBO and MTV, freezing cold A/C, daily room service (i don't think even hotels do this nowadays), personal safe box, quick breakfast on the way out (b/f PT; mess hall after PT 🙂), hot tub, free laundry room (you'd need it unless you bring 50 ACUs), a bunch of people to wake you up if you buzzed off after 10 margaritas the night before, etc.

army is certainly not for everyone. i've already seen some downers myself, but it is definitely worth the try before you hate it (i think ali g said that...)

good luck. 👍👍👍
