I have one email address solely for the purpose of letting AMCAS and schools send me emails. I have not put that email address ANYWHERE else besides my apps. Yet, I am still getting a ton of spam and crappy emails about deals and stuff I don't care about.
Anyone else getting all this stuff too?

Nope. I created a yahoo e-mail account just for AMCAS and the schools, and I'm only getting official stuff. I'm pretty amazed!

Hope I didn't speak too soon...

You don't necessarily need to give your email out to get spammed. If the service is free like Hotmail (they are the WORST) or Yahoo, they will give out your email address to "participating companies." You agree to let them do this when you sign up. Unless it's a school address or something you're paying good money for (like AOL, etc) then expect lots of SPAM. Fortunately, Hotmail and Yahoo now have bulk mail folders to help filter through all the crap and let you focus on what is actually mail that you want to recieve. You're never safe from spam. I always read full headers and report spam to abuse@domain. Works too. Good luck.

Hotmail SUCKS! Not only is their spam protector deficient (I still get on average 10 spam emails delivered to my inbox... luckily I don't really use that address anymore) but the service screws up often when you try to send emails. I've had friends tell me they've never received my emails even though there's a record of them being seng! Yahoo's pretty efficient though... but I use a free email service that no one's heard of... math.com 🙂

does anyone use the SDN email?
