I'm considering a future career in optometry but I do have one concern. I have a slight red-green color deficiency. Since I can see colors, the problem is mostly recognizing various shades of color. Anyway, I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has been able to enter the profession with this problem. Has it hurt you in any way during your career? Did it affect your ability to perform in classes/labs?

Thanks for the information.

It shouldn't affect your performance as an OD.
I know an OD with your same condition and he is doing great.

There is a girl in my class with a color deficiency, but I don't know what exactly. She's doing just fine. If anything, you probably have more insight on that sort of thing than a lot of us do. 🙂 If optometry is what interests you, go for it!

I've got the same thing! 🙂 Ain't holding me back!! Um.. maybe you'll have to know the answers for those Ischiara (sp?) tests prior to giving them?

Bro, I know color deficient surgeons, and if it doesn't hold them back there is absolutely no way your going to have a problem with it.

all the best.
