Just got my first denial letter from from Midwestern. Didn't even get an interview. To think I got rejected by a school that accepts a bunch of students now I feel terrible about myself! I didn't think I would have gotten rejected so early in the cycle. My science GPA was too low but I figured they would have looked at it AFTER this semester, where it would've been semi-competitive. Has anyone else gotten denied? Any advice?

Do you get rejection letters in the mail? I haven't gotten one from any schools yet.

I haven't gotten rejected but I've been put on hold with one school. Don't take it too harshly. If you search around these forums you'll find kids that got accepted into UCSF and got rejected by UOP. This process is a crapshoot

I wouldn't get too down about it. They have a hard cut off for their GPAs, so if it's below you are automatically denied - they don't even review the application. I think it's just an automated rejection that goes out.

Same thing happened to me. I got rejected because of my science GPA but it was due to a poor start to college back in 2007. I went back to school in 2012 and started completely over and have a 3.8 GPA but they did not care. They really don't practice what they preach because they talk about how grades dont matter in the orientation but then reject someone that has shown they can excel in school. Don't beat yourself up. I am already accepted into another school and it turns out it will be a much better fit for me. You will get in where you need to me. Trust me, I was pissed when I got the email and letter in the mail but I am glad it happened. I feel much better about the school I will be starting in August.

I thought a 3.0 GPA was good enough for lower tiered pharm schools

Do they send out email and letter?

And i agree i have always heard people saying midwestern is pretty easy to get in but not really. May be because they get so many applicants with great stats, so their admission is getting competitive. May be they just want to attract more people to apply so they can get $$ and then reject them..

They emailed me and a few days later I had a letter. It was the automated one because of my PharmCAS science GPA. Apparently it was .03 too low for them. They get a TON of apps from California kids now and all of Arizona tries to get in there since U of A is mainly their own students. Atleast that is what has been explained to me. I will be honest though... the faculty was not impressive and the campus facilities were not NEARLY as impressive as other schools I have interviewed at. Their lab was more worn down than the labs at Chandler Gilbert Community College. I know I might sound bitter because of getting rejected but it made me look at other options. I only applied to Midwestern at first. I actually went and talked to an admissions adviser during the orientation they had about a week later and was told they would look at my app and get back to me... well I have not heard anything even after a few follow-up emails. They dont give a rip about students from what I have experienced. I got the email 2 days before the online virtual fair. I got on the virtual fair and looked at schools that had really high NAPLEX pass percentages, high residency match rates, and high job placement. One of those schools was SUPER nice chatting with me at the fair and gave me an interview spot less than 48 hours after designating them on PharmCAS. I went to the interview and I was blown away by everything I saw and heard. They have amazing facilities and even better faculty.

What to say, i heard this all the time from my friends. And i agree.. I am just applying because i don't want to move out of state. U of A was my number 1 choice but since i didnt do good in PCAT, i didnt feel like to waste money on apps because i knew they would reject me. And not to mention 58K /year, its one of the most expensive schools after california schools..

And what schools you were accepted? I am thinking on sending my app to roseman even though its in NV..

Roseman is one. They have true academic forgiveness so I have a 3.8 GPA applying there. The Dean of Admissions was really nice. I have not heard the best things about their curriculum set up though from some students. 90% on all tests can be stressful I imagine. I do like the classroom setup they have their though. I have been accepted to Lipscomb in Nashville and have an interview in North Carolina in January. I was supposed to go to an interview tomorrow but I had to postpone due to a test I cant miss. I rejected an interview to University of Hawaii once I got my acceptance letter from Lipscomb but they were really nice as well. Lipscomb made me, and a few others I have talked to that have been accepted, feel like a Rockstar. Their faculty could not be nicer and the actual labs and classrooms are insanely nice. They video record everything so that if you miss a lecture it is posted online 20 minuets after class. You can even live stream the classes if you are sick or something. They have a huge sterile compounding lab with cameras so that you can look back on what you were doing to find mistakes and improve. They have very high residency placement and a 100% job placement from what they report. I have a high school friend graduating from there in May and he loves it.

Nice you have looked up schools in n out. It must be nice to apply many schools and get invited for interview...Congrats on your acceptance!!
I heard about roseman curriculum which also makes me nervous but i will still apply because it will wave my PCAT because i am graduating with bachelors degree...

I've gotten a couple rejection letters, but also acceptance letters. Just because one school rejects you, doesn't mean another won't like you! Every school looks for different traits in students. Midwestern may be known for accepting many students, gpa ranging from 2.5 to 4.0, but they also reject people in every part of that spectrum. You are not defined by a GPA. There will be school that see and weigh heavily the improvements you made. Getting rejected from Midwestern may not even be a bad thing. After the research I did and everyone at MWU that I talked to, everyone seems to love it. But as you can see with previous posters here, Midwestern is not for everyone. If you are just applying there because it sounds like an easy school to get in to, you may not even like it there. Don't worry. You will get in to pharmacy school elsewhere. Don't give up!

they mailed it

Just to give you advice and others, the application process opens up at the end of july, so the informed aka prepared students will have their application done and sent in by august. My gpa is a 3.58 Overall science 3.55 and I was accepted at mwu and I'm pretty excited to go there bc ive heard a lot of good things about it. My friend with similar stats just got rejected at mwu ccp bc he applied later than me. So timing plays a huge role in the app process. Also mwu has a lot of applicants because the program is established and has a good rep nationally so dnt fret too much. Try applying to new schools you'll have a better shot. But at the same time this is a professional program so if you or anyone else are/were struggling in undegrad...you might want to reconsider before getting into a lot of debt and not making it through school.

Are you planning on doing a residency after school? Midwestern has a high match rate for PGY-1 programs. Many students do a residency for 1-2 years after graduating. There are talks of 3 year residency programs starting soon.

Your friend got rejected with 3.58 GPA????? That's weird because i just read that someone here with 2.8 got waitlisted in MWU. It just all depends. I know people with 3.0 got accepted last year. It's not all about GPA , schools are looking for more well rounded people. May be your friend had great GPA but something in his/her profile wasn't right which resulted in app rejection. Yes, i agree earlier you apply the better your chances are with okay GPA. But i know MWU interviews people until march so OP wasn't late in this procedure. And sometimes people messed up their undergraduate GPA because of many reasons beyond their control. As far as they show that they have learned and better themselves in grades, nothing should prevent them to apply to any graduate school.

The main reason I decided against Hawaii was the distance from family. We have 4 month old twin boys that we don't want to take away from Grandmas. And we feel bad making them pay so much for flights. We also don't wan't take out more loans than we need too. Hawaii would have been much more expensive for me. I think if I was single I would pick Hawaii in a heart beat.
