Anyone else get an interview yet?
Started by Andy785
Hey,
Wow, you are really early in the game. I'm gonna be completed with my applications hopefully end of October, and OAT mid November. Hopefully it will not be too late. You are making me nervous that I will be too late, lol. Well, good luck with the interviews at Nova, and Neco (?).

I have an interview on Sept. 29th at UMSL and Oct. 6th at Nova. SCO said they are reviewing my application and I haven't heard a thing from ICO which disappoints me. Anyone heard about the dress code at NOVA???? Shirt and tie w/ white coat everyday. No jeans/shorts/sneakers/ etc. It doesn't really upset me since I wear a shirt and tie when i volunteer at the doctor's anyway
From my understanding when I visited NOVA this summer, you wear scrubs and a lab coat to class. Or just scrubs...hmm not sure. But if you were going to meet up with a faculy member or had no scrubs to wear for the day, than you would dress formally.

I was wondering if the people who got interviews can put down their OAT scores and also their gpa.
Thanks
Thanks
Wow, you guys have some ridiculous stats. I have a 340 AA, 330 TS and a 3.13 GPA. I have done a lot of shadowing, though, and I am working as a technician right now. I got interviews with NECO, Nova, and PCO so far, but looking at all of your stats, I'm nervous!

dont be, check out opted.org for the actual stats for each school. think about it this way if you had poor stats would you post it??? stats on sdn are inflated.
to let you feel better here is "a current first year's stats" *cough cough
340AA 340 TS 3.6 GPA
wow... with a 380 and a 400 and a 3.7 i'd be suprised if a school didn't give you an interview..
has happened
Yea, looking at these stats I am a bit nervous too, especially considering I haven't taken the OAT yet (currently taking a Kaplan course, taking it first week of November). Graduated as a bio major with 3.32 overall GPA and a 3.16 pre-req GPA. Did a lot of extracurriculars and held presidential offices in organizations/community service, did several research internships at NIH and Walter Reed Inst. of Research, worked as an optometric tech for 1 yr and currentely working as a full-time ophthalmic tech for the last 7 months, got 5 LORs from 3 profs, 1 OD, and 1 MD. Bilingual in Spanish and English, yes..I am Hispanic. Ahhhh, what are my chances! BTW, when did u hear from PCO?

why do you have 5 LORs 😱 I have only collected 3 LORs...what schools want more then 3? (even if it is optional more then 3)
great...a new thing to be worried about
I interviewed with UAB on the 15th and have SCO on the 29th, NOVA on oct. 12, and ICO.. it's kind of scary!!

I recieved an email from ICO for an interview today as well. So that makes it ICO, UMSL, and NOVA. MY GPA is a 3.23 and my OAT is 320AA and 320TS so dont worry. I did over a year of volunteering with an optometrist and I'm still at it so experience plays a part and not just gpa and OAT. Getting your app in early helps as well I assume.
Get in as many LORs as possible..the schools put no limit on it. Try to vary the sources as well to give them a sense of a well rounded applicant. Example: Get your professors from biology or your major but also an elective like an art or a humanity. Also have your employer send one...gives them an idea of your work ethic outside of school.
I sent 5 LORs to SUNY, NOVA, ICO, PCO, SCCO, and Berkeley. I called the schools in advance to let them know I would be sending that many, the only ones that were kinda like "well...we might not read them all" was Berkeley and ICO. The other schools had no problem. As someone mentioned above, if you are going to send that many make sure the letters emphasize the different aspects of your character ie; academic accomplishment-profs in diff. disciplines of study, work ethic-employer, community service coordinators, etc... The other reason is because I missed the deadline for my professional committee to compile my information (didn't even know there was such a thing!). Anywho, I would encourage if you made "connections" through your academic career to get individual LORs from people who know you well. I think the Professional Committee's are BS (at least they seemed to be that way in my school).
Good Luck.
Good Luck.
I have an interview now at SCCO!! Yea!!! Should I go now, or should I wait a month or so (so that it's really cold in Utah) when It would be more of a vacation?!
Has anyone got an interview from PCO yet?
Not yet.. but am still waiting for my professors to send in their LOR... hopefully that's why..
Let me know if you all hear anything ..🙂
Best Wishes

Congrats on getting your interview. When did you hear? I got everything to them on the first day so i'm really anxious. SCCO is currently my first choice. In my opinion if i were you and you want a vacation I would come soon while its still warm out here in california and you can spend a day at the beach.

Not at all, I scored a 380 on the RC. It was definitely my highest subscore.

Thanks, I received a letter in the mail today. It was dated September 18, which was probably 2 weeks after my app was completed. Ya, I'm really excited to come out. My wife would like to join me on this one, maybe we could go to Disneyland too. . .
Woohoo, after a long day of work and stress I come home to find a packet from PCO. They want to schedule an interview with me..I am so excited, they're an excellent school.
I just got the information packet from NOVA... the dress code seems crazy. I mean obviously they don't want people to look gross, but I feel like they're thinking I'm 15 and can't present myself well.. kinda weird..

I've not seen the dress code for NOVA but it may be because you'll be touring the clinic. They probably aren't concerned about your interview rather the image presented in their clinic. Congrats on the interview.
Congrats! You must be ecstatic, is that your first choice? Hopefully I will hear from them at the beginning of the week, (Canada post brings a whole new meaning to the phase snail mail!)
God I hope I get an interview...
Thanks! 🙂 PCO is such a great school! 😍 I know an interview doesn't = acceptance... but I am definately excited to have gotten this far 🙂
..And Don't worry, it's still early yet.. Good Luck!

Thanks! But this wasn't for the interview, it was for class, 8-5, M-F. You're not allowed to wear shorts, jeans, t-shirts, sandals, or sneakers, ever. If you show up to class or anywhere on campus in any of these, you are asked to leave and have an unexcused absence... Has anyone else heard about this?

Now that, I agree, is out there. I'm not a fan of dress codes. You should see how I dress at work... I've actually been accused of being a homeless person on more than one occassion.

Yeah, this kind of turned me off of NOVA...
