Anyone else get this feeling when this happens?

Yeah, so your phone rings and you see your bosses name on the caller ID. Sometimes I really get the urge to not pick up the phone because 95% of the time its because they're looking for someone to cover someone else's shift.

I don't mind covering shifts if I'm told about it 2-3 weeks in advance, but like today I was about to head to Penn to go snowboarding then I get a call, picked up the phone, and apparently one of the techs can't work because of an injury(falling down on the ice of course). I wanted to say no, but I ended up saying yes, grrr.
 
Beats a call that says don't come in because you just got laid off.
 
Many years ago, when I worked retail the district scheduler was always calling trying to get me (and everyone else) to pick up shifts. I just stopped answering the phone. If they left a message I deleted it.

Then they started calling me at work and I had to just keep saying "I'm sorry I already have plans for that day." These plans always took all day and required me to be out of town.

Then I got the 'be a team player' speech from the district manager. I just uh-huhed my way through it and went back to not taking their calls and saying I already had plans.

Eventually they stopped asking me.

In all fairness, I'm sure that at some point I told someone at district that I neither wanted nor needed overtime, but I'm sure that the people at district payed as much attention to that as they do to anything.

Also, I would always help out a fellow pharmacist if they personally asked to trade days with me. But I could care less if district had a problem staffing its stores.

Definitely know how you feel! thankfully this doesn't happen too often at my current job.
 
Well I found out the guy I was covering today actually fractured his skull when he fell down, so yeah I'd have felt pretty guilty if I said no.

I really don't mind covering morning shifts, but I hate picking up evening shifts because then the 2 hours before your shift also get messed up because you gotta get home and get ready to go to work. That and there's not much to do for fun from 9AM-1PM as opposed to 4PM-8PM.
 
Of course, I had to say it (that I'd prefer covering a morning shift) I get a call at 8AM in the morning that someone called out sick. This time the answer is no. Perhaps I shouldn't tell my employers when I get days off from school, lol.
 
one time after a really late night (a friends birthday) my phone went off at about 8AM. I saw it was the district RPh supervisor, and let it go to VM. I figured I would call him back when I woke up and see if he still needed help.

Within 20 minutes he literally called back 6 more times...

When I finally picked up, he said "oh, I'm sorry...I didnt mean to wake you up"

Yeah right.:scared::scared::scared:
