i have had my application complete with AZCOM and LECOM back in october. I am not hearing anything. AZCOM tells me that they are reviewing my application. they have said that to me for like the past month now. LECOM tells me that to be patient, and that sumtimes the commitee needs extra time to make a decision. My GPA is shaky (3.15) but its because of a family tragedy. My MCAT is 22. I am thinking that if they wanted to reject me they couldhave done that a while back. The fact that they are taking time makes me believe that they might be showing some interest in me.
Another fact is that i am canadian. May be they are waiting till the end cuz they might have a quota on as to how many canadian students thay wanna interview.
I am not sure whats going on. Any inputs or opinions will be greatly appreciated.

You might be right about the whole Canadian thing...I'm a Canadian too and my app was complete at AZCOM back in November, and I haven't heard anything from them either. I didn't apply to LECOM, but other schools I did apply to have already interviewed and accepted me. I don't know what's taking AZCOM so long. I talked to someone there back near the end of December who said I should be hearing "something" in the next few weeks. Well, it's been over a month, and I still haven't heard anything. If they're not interested in me, I wish they would just be upfront about it, and tell me so. AZCOM was one of my top choices, but now I'm not so sure.

Just curious, you guys studying (undergrad) in Canada or the US? Did you apply to both MD and DO schools?

I did my undergrad in Canada, and only applied to DO schools.

If the reason that I'm a Canadian, and have done my schooling here in Canada is the reason I haven't heard back from AZCOM, I'm a little frustrated. I called them BEFORE I sent in my application (and $$) to ask them if this would be a problem, and they told me it wouldn't be.

Ironically, I hope the reason I haven't heard anything is because they found something in my app that they didn't like...not just because I'm a Canadian. 🙄

bikerboy-- attending azcom--from provo?? i was thrown a bit by the location thing. How are you enjoying the first year?? A bunch of us from utah have gotten together-- do you see a good representation in your class?? Meeting and getting to know so many great people that i'll be studying with has made this decision so much easier!!

3.15 and 22 is a bit shaky. with regards to lecom, their interviewing about 1000 applicants for a class of 198 I believe.

I interviewed there in November and they stated that most likely the class will be filled by februray and selection of the alternates will be begin soon after. Needless to say, people juggle around their spots and spots always begin to open as the class nears the start date.

I didn't interview AZCOM. I don't think being candian is a significant issue in regards to your application.

To be honest, I think its your grades and test scores. I'm not suggesting that you're unable to get accepted to medical school.

But what LECOM does is that they screen their applicants every week according to strengths and invite the strongest candidates for what remaining spots they have for interviews.

I wouldn't give up all hope but I would start considering a "back-up" plan as well.

I just got a letter from AZCOM this morning saying that I'd be invited for an interview if I can show them a bank account statement with the full cost of tuition plus living expenses for one year in it. Soooooo....I guess I'm not going to AZCOM... 🙁

I don't know why they have this requirement for Canadians. None of the other schools I've been accepted at have asked for this--they all just need a good credit history, to prove that I can get funding somehow.

This really sucks.

Bikerboy--did you need to show them all the money up front like that?? 😕
