harsh...

our worst this semester is 7 hours with a lunch break. We have about 30 hours/week of mandatory class. Much better then MS1 though...this is our least busy semester of of the first two years.

**PRE-MEDS**
DO NOT GO TO A SCHOOL WITH MANDATORY ATTENDANCE! CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED!
**PRE-MEDS**

You would think that a med school would know enough about the downside of expecting someone to sit and absorb that much information without breaks and without a lunch break. (Information Overload and low blood sugar..)

Are you at least allowed to eat something quick and filling in class?

Solution: Eat throughout the day.

Better solution: Don't go to class. 🙂

PD...what school is that?

I know the "else" in your question implies that you actually have sufferred what it is you refer to, but still I have to think - are you referring to a hypothetical situation or something that you have experienced?

And if it's the latter, then, as eloquently as I can say it: sux 2 b u!

For me:
3 out of the 5 days of the week is
4 hrs in morning, 1 hr lunch, 5 hrs in the evening.

Other day, 4 hrs in morning, 1 for lunch, 4 in the evening
last day, 3 in morning, 1 for lunch, 4 in the evening.
🙂

They seriously don't give you any breaks. Thats ridiculous. I have 4 hours of non-mandatory class in the morning, which is good b/c I don't learn well in class, with breaks every hour. Then on non-test weeks (our tests are every other week) we can have up to 6 hours of stuff in the afternoon for the whole week (PBL and patient encounters). They've worked it out for us this year that we don't have anything at all in the afternoons of test weeks. It pretty nice but it still feels like I don't have enough hours in the day. I can't imagine 8 hours of class.

i haven't actually had those days yet; just looked at the schedule; it's not every day. what do you think "dean's meeting " is? perhaps we can eat during that.

Let's see. Monday and Friday are 8:00 to 12:00. Tuesday through Thursday are 10:00 to no later than 4:30 (with an hour for lunch). We only have two hours of lecture per day, though.

well today i only had 2 hrs, tomorrow I have 6 (with a lunch break) but starting next week I have days of 9-5 with no breaks. ugh and 3 hrs gross anatomy lab to end the days 🙁 which follows a gross anatomy lecture.

and the week of sept 25th I have 9-5 every single day without any breaks at all. this is torture.

You'll probably get breaks every hour or two they just aren't listed in the schedule. Besides the fact that it would be absurd to ask you to sit for that long no lecturer wants to talk for that long.

Our class schedule is pretty reasonable, although the amount of material you have to learn is still insane: non-mandatory class 8-12 am M-F (2 hrs. lecture, 2 lab, with breaks every hour during lecture). Once a week we have a principles of clinical medicine course from 1-5 pm, and another day we are in a clinic with a preceptor from 1-5 pm. The scedule pretty much stays the same throughout the first year, the occasional extra lecture gets thrown in but most days we're done by noon (and if there's an extra lecture, they give us an hour lunch or provide lunch for us). I don't know how you do all the studying you need to on your own if you're stuck in class that much, not to mention how god-awful it would be to sit in lecture for that long without even a lunch break.

i'm so sure they'll let you eat lunch during the 'dean's meeting', i'll buy you a new car if they don't.
i have to suspect you're mulling over your impending schedule a bit too much! i'm sure even if lunch is not scheduled, there will be at least a 10-min break during which you can go get some food and come back with it. like i said, i'm pretty positive about this one.
don't stress! 😛

wow you guys have freakin' harsh schedules. we have lecture from 8 to noon everyday and afternoon labs 2 or (more usually) 3 days a week.

Hi there,
A few schools that had 8-hour plus days have cut back their schedules because they figured out that students are not learning in lecture. The real learning starts when you are studying the material after hours. If you stay in class, you have less "after hour" learning.

Most schools have moved to a schedule that contains 50-minute lectures and 10-minute breaks with students getting out in the early afternoon unless there are labs like Gross Anatomy. If not, it is going to be rough to absorb the information. That's when having a good note service comes in handy.

njbmd 🙂

well my schedule counted the labs. sorry I didn't mean to imply it was all lectures, to me lab is a class. Also it's not all one lecture, most lectures are only an hour or two.

does anyone have any idea about which school PD is talkin about?

Haha PD will never tell where he goes. It would be to much to ask that he actually act like a mature man and not a little girl, stop being so damn daramatic and emotional, and actually contribute to the forum instead of being girly about everything. PD, you remind me of that chracter in that movie with elizabeth hurley where the guy gets to wish he were all those different people by making a pact with the devil, and one of the people he became was an overly sensitive guy on the beach, that's how you act  Anyhow, PD used to have a mdapps that he also didnt publish but people found, but I don't think its up anymore.

PD: my guess is you go to wake. if i am right, say nothing at all...

Aww, poor PD. We go from 8-5 every day except the days when we don't. Suck it up.
