Im an MS1 with 3 more weeks before winter break and I am starting to get to that point where its tough for me to focus like I could in the beginning of the semester when i could study 8-10 hours per day no problem. I am approaching 6 hours per day now tops and its tough for me to keep studying. I am doing pretty well in my classes and I want to keep up my momentum and finish strong/not have my grades dip. Any tips from M2s or M3s that can help me work through this because this absolutely will NOT be the last time I will feel like this in my road to becoming a medical doctor since boards are harder and so is M2. Thanks!

The final push always sucks in med school. All I can say is you’ll enjoy your break so much more if you walk away knowing you didn’t let yourself gas out. Work hard, play hard.

Fairly normal to be where you are at in this time of year. Slog through- trust me, after xmas break, you will be on point again, with much higher study endurance. Just don't do anything school related during the break though!!

Your 6 hours a day is much better than what I am doing now during M2!

Exercise
Yoga
Meditation
Mindfulness techniques

Are you exercising or watching TV? Because if not, then you might have found your answer.

Also, you can't afford to burn out yet! You're not a second year yet!

I am right there with ya! Trying to continue to fight. This is grueling, lol.

take a full day or two off, watch some stupid tv or do something you enjoy. It helps refocus. Sometimes its not worth grinding through because you end up with such terrible efficiency that you might as well not be studying .
Agreed. That's what I've doing whenever I hit a wall. OMS1 here as well.

You gotta have something to look forward to. Plan a trip with some friends and get it on the books. When the day your in sucks just look forward to something else. Visit the BMW Motorrad website and spend 5 mins dreaming about riding a motorcycle to Patagonia or whatever.

What keeps me going is thinking of 10 days of mountain biking in AZ in about 3 more weeks...

Make some time to do your hobbies during the suck or you're gonna have a bad time.

Dream about where you see yourself in 10 years. Write it out. Also, take breaks every 45 minutes or so for 15 minutes. Be kind to yourself.

Change your study environment. Towards the end of those semesters I rotated between the lecture hall, library, study rooms, and coffee shops. I could basically study for 1.5-2 hours straight at that point before becoming frustrated/losing focus. I would take a 30 min break as I changed environments to sustain another 2-3 hour study chunk.

Solid move

I also think dating really helps. Having someone there for you really helps you get through the hard stuff.
