you know the answer to this-----YES I AM EXTREMLY nervous and anxious and scared.
My test is also on the 15th as well...11am!
thank god I don't have to wake up at 6am for an 8am am 🙂

Seema,

everyone is nervous. But being overly nervous is not a good thing. A little anxiety is good for you since the sympathetic nervous system stimulates the adrenal glands, specifically the adrenal medulla, to release epineprine and norepineprine which start up the "fight or flight" response. This increases your heart beat, pushes blood away from the GI tract and takes it straight to the skeletal muscles. Skeletal muscles are multinucleated, striated, and are under voluntary control. Meaning that by using the skeletal muscle you will be choosing either A, B, C, D, or E for the answer choices on August 27. After August 27 the parasympathetic nervous system will kick in and remove blood from the skeletal muscle and take it straight to the GI tract to "rest and digest." Just think about after you are done. Think positive. Just think, in this response you just learned several more concepts and you are even more prepared for the DAT. Don't worry you will do fine. Worrying does not achieve anything.

I used the following stratedgy to prepare those "big days". I closed shop one day before the exam. On that day, I slept in, shut out the world, stayed in my "grubbies", kept the drapes pulled, listened to my favorite music, ate tons of ice cream, and got to bed at a decent hour.

thanks desi and groundhog! good ideas 🙂

In case anybody is interested, I'm nearing the publication of a paper in which I've analyzed the effects of the parasympathetic nervous system in stimulating the adreanl glands to produce glucocorticoids (cortisol), etc. When the hypothamlic-pituitary-adrenal axis is shut down, interleukin-6 is fairly effective at targeting the adrenal and bolstering immune system response.

Ahh, but who cares anyways.

Good luck on your exams, everybody! You'll all do much better than you are anticipating! Don't stress over the exam, just give it your best effort (it is not a life/death situation)!

Try telling that to vixen,

and me. If it isn't a life or death situation then why is my sympathetic nervous system switching on the "fight or flight" mechanism??? Why, Why, Why. Mr. Interleukin. You already are seeing 20/20, welll what about me??

Enough venting. I hate gibberlins, I hate auxin, I hate kinens. screw apical meristems.

PGAL I want to kick your ass.

RuBP I hate you. die die die die die die die die ...

I only want to help people brush their teeth not examine what they are eating and what that food did when it was alive.

I hate the Calvin Cycle

Is this a Fixed Action Pattern, or am I going loco en la cabeza.

By the way, Gavin I would love to read your synopsis on your research Please email it to me when you are done.

Ha! I hear that!

You know, all my friends who took the DAT before me said that they didn't sleep a wink the night before. Well, I was extremely nervous. but this strange calm came over me before I took it. I really felt as though I had done everything that I possibly could in the amount of time I studied, etc. I ended up really not studying in the days before....it was my BD....plus I got sick and puked that day.......gross. Just relax and know you'll do fine.

Besides, you KNOW how you'll do because I'm assuming you've been taking tons of practice tests. You may score slightly higher or lower...but it will be fairly indicative.

OH YES the other thing I forgot to say was that even though I was nervous, it felt FABULOUS to know that even if I did ****ty on the DAT.....

IT WAS OVER!!!!! You'll feel the same way, I promise.

I just want you to know that I will keep you in my prayers that you score well on the DAT and that your dream of becoming a Dentist will soon come into place.

So good luck and may God, budda, vishnu, and the many other gods be on your side when you take the DAT

sincerely
the hockeydentist ( You can do it)

ha! thanks hockeydentist!! Even though Im agnostic, I do hope those gods are on my side! 😀 Seriously though, now that I am really on the fence about dentistry vs teaching, I feel a lot more relaxed about both and feel confident I can do well in either...or both of them together (teaching dentist)....anyways, I got an AADSAS # today...whoopeeeee

vixen did you get your confirmation number over the phone or by mail???

i called them.

thanks s.mutans....i did another practice test today.....i used the barron's book today and I wasn't too happy w/some of the answers they gave...ill post them later and you guys tell me what you think. Anyways, its getting closer (27th).....i'd feel more prepared if i didn't have that teaching orientation all next week 😱 ....but I guess I have to just work hard! 🙄

My DAT story:

I was anal for the DAT. I had a 35 min. drive so I was like 2 hours early for my 1:00 test time. I ate a healthy breakfast & I brought the cell phone incase of a flat or breakdown. I had a little chocolate & gum packed so I could eat it just before the test and break. Water too. I had my ID, my mechanical pencils, and my glasses in case my contacts went haywire during the test. I even packed extra socks, sweats, and a long sleeve shirt in case it was too cold. I was ready to take the test right? Well about 20 min down the road I realized I had forgot to brush my teeth. Yes embarassing but true.

Lol. That's funny. Come on Matt, brushing your teeth should ALWAYS be your #1 priority. 😉

ALL IS NOT LOST!!!

Just chew your gum if you forgot to brush your teeth. 😀 Umm.. That's sugarless gum you are packing, right?

If it is, YES you are dentist material.
