For some reason, I cannot bring myself to write the essays for Case Western (yet I can come on here to complain about it...if only my boss knew about this!). I've had this secondary sitting here for over a month. Anyone else in the same situation?

I've been sitting on BU for about 2 weeks. I've pretty much finished every other secondary I've received thus far.

Yeah, I'm feeling a little burnt out. I have a handful of secondaries that I need to submit this week (now that I have the $$) and I just can't seem to do it. I need to do them soon though, b/c I start a new job next week that will be very time consuming.

I sat on Pritzker for about a month. I finally let it go yesterday. What a burden lifted! I have three more web based secondaries to do and about three paper (typewriter) ones to do. I left those for last. Not sure how I'm gonna do those. I don't have a typewriter. At this point I'm so tired I just want to handwrite them.

People around here make a big deal about handwriting them. I don't think it matters to be honest with you. Typewriters look primitive anyway.

i sat on case forEVER...finally got it in. i still haven't done BU...i think that will be the last one i do...a-holes

I've been sitting on Loyola since 8/16. However, I think I'll get the motivation together to do it this weekend. That is, unless Battlefield 2 gets in the way

BU is definitely not getting done until I absolutely have nothing else to write. That stupid optional essay. +pissed+

I've been sitting on the Rosalind Franklin secondary - I just can't seem to write the Life in Discovery essay- it's killing me! 😱

I am sitting on Rush, BU and Michigan State, and I'm not sure I will complete them... My reasoning is that the Rush secondary is HUGE and I have heard the BU does not take community college credits (still need to research that for myself). I just am not interested in the Michigan program (for personal reasons). I know I shouldn't have applied to these, but oh well..

I also haven't started (but intend to complete) Medical University of Ohio, VCU, Stanford, University of Virginia, University of Vermont, Rosalind Franklin, University of Chicago and University of Cincinnati.

Going on vacation the next couple of weeks, and I don't see any reason to rush these.. I want to see where I stand with the other schools before I waste more time and money!

I had no trouble with BU, believe it or not. I guess I'm into professionalism.

I think my problems with Case Western are:
1) I have too many interests outside of medicine
2) My primary interest, according to my friends, coworkers, and family, is men (not the most appropriate topic)
3) I've done lots of different research, all of which I find interesting and valuable. I can't decide how to approach the research question.

Um, firebird... VCU has a deadline of like 45 days to get your file complete from the day you were offered the secondary. If you intend to apply there, keep your eye on that deadline. They're pretty strict with it.

Ah, Rush wasn't that bad... now Loyola and Johns Hopkins - those are LONG secondaries...

I've been sitting on CASE #1 for the longest time!!!! And i dont particularly want to write it. Maybe i should do a quicky and talk about SDN.

I just submitted Duke that I've been sleeping on for 2 weeks. 10 essays finallys done! It feels good to be done for now; where is Harvard?

Mount Sinai... Looking at the MSAR, I question whether or not I even have a chance. I'm also thinking of all the things I can do with $100 and considering my savings account is diminishing at an alarming rate, I will have to content myself with applying to only 16 schools... 🙂

Yeah.. I have until Oct 1st for VCU. I need to reload my bank account before firing off another round. 🙄

ugh to case and stony brook.
i really should finish off mt. sinai and umich tonight. k. well then. off to do it.

Stupid University of Illinois...a month and still ticking away...ugh

I just flat ran out of money grrr... damn you parking tickets.

Same here!!! How do you motivate yourself to write?

Sitting on Case, Pritzker, Ohio State, Rosalind Franklin, Rush for the longest time now. And I let go of Northwestern, my reach, due date passed and most likely would have gotten rejected there anyway.

i've been sitting on UCI for a loooong while now.

i FORGOT i had Rush... because it got buried somewhere in my email. and then i looked at it and realized how long it was

i've been sitting on temple for almost 3 weeks now -- hopefully i will finish that tomorrow and turn it in. i hope they don't mind it's so late (they did not give a word limit and i didn't know for how long i was allowed to brown-nose for)

yeah, secondaries are expensive, but know what? i'd rather pay another 100 bucks per secondary than sit around stressing, or stress-sleeping, and writing a mountain of essays. why don't they just make it 200 bucks each, and skip the essay portion?? i mean, we're all gonna be paying back loans anyway so this is just a drop in the bucket, and good investment.

i think you can skip paying them and do community service instead. i met this girl at the soup kitchen yesterday who was working 27 hours there instead of paying $270 in tickets

So far, the longest secondary I sat on was Stanford's... for 2 weeks; followed by UCLA's secondary for 1 week and Cornell's for 1 week (though I put it off because they're essentially non-rolling). Still sitting AND waiting for Harvard, OHSU, UW, UCSD, and UCSF to arrive, if even.

Case, Pritzger, and UVA for me. UVA is biiiitch: the questions aren't long but I have no idea what to write. Also, my thesis research experience was my biggest, but my advisor was a jerk and it was an awful experience... not sure if that's appropriate to write for CWRU....Northwestern in (reach for me too), and I'm kind of glad I did it because I've reused all of the essays from there at least once (sweet).
Gotta love the reusing of essays 🙂

Oh yeah, I also sat on BU's secondary for 2 weeks and then decided to toss it! I felt liberated, yet I longed for my wasted $30 on the AMCAS 😎 Ah well...

Oh, and as far as motivation to write, my friend pointed out something that definitely got my butt in gear: apparantly UMich (which I'm not applying to, but whatever) has a ticker up with how many interview spots they have left and how many applications they've received. Nothing like a little pressure to get the essays written 🙂 Not that mine are done yet...

I haven't seen or heard of the UMich ticker before. My longest delay submitting a secondary so far was UVA, which took five weeks. Currently I still need to do Yale, Columbia, Boston University, Rosalind Franklin, UC Davis, Duke, and OHSU. I've had some of these since July 5! I don't know if I will end up doing all of the first four.

I've been sitting on Case's secondary because of the research question. I've been a lab tech...and I'm starting a project for my last year, but I've just not done anything significant yet. I have NO idea how to write the research essay. I hope they don't place alot of importance on it, because I have little to no research experience. What the hell should I say??

After some serious procrastination I decided not to do BU or Georgetown. I just couldn't get motivated to put in the time to write essays for schools that I wasn't really all too excited about anyway. I ditched Duke last week for the same reason. I assume they design their secondary to keep people like me from wasting their time. Respect. I hope Harvard doesn't want me to write any essays, cuz at this moment, I don't think I have a single essay left in me. Oh yeah and where is UNC?

Could someone please post the question that is on Case Western secondary please?

the secondary thread have mostly essay questions from last year.

thanks.

I went about this all wrong. I sat on the hardest ones; UIC, Chicago, BU, Columbia, Duke... And I could have used all of those essays in random "what else do you want to tell us", or shorten them for other essays. Plus, now after 20 secondaries, I have these beasts to complete. I'm totally spent. Duke? Come on. Is that necessary?

Lady, have you started reading papers regarding your new project? what does the lab study as a whole (ie what are the main goals/projects)? what will you be doing? what have you observed (procedure wise and about the research process as a whole) as a tech? does the lab work well together? talk about that. i still think that you can write a good essay from the experience you have so far. have you been making solutions/media? if so, put a twist on it to correlate it with medicine. you could talk about procedures you've observed so far, how your excited to begin your project, how you're planning on approaching the project (ie, how has your way of thinking about things/science changed since you've joined the lab)? sorry for the rant, it's just a couple of things i thought about when reading your post.

on another note, i wonder how much the size of the BU applicant pool has decreased because of their essay question. it seems a large portion of SDN'ers aren't filling it out (myself included)!

Speaking of randomly putting in response for the "what else you want to tell us, or the write about whatever it is not related to medicine" essay, can we just put in an essay from a question on another 2ndary--like the "who has been the most influential in our lives and why" essay into this section, or should we focus on a particular subject matter...cause I'm running out of things to write about...okay, i'm just plain lazy...
...how about using an essay written from previous english class? yes, i am that lazy...and work is taking up too much time to leave me time to write dammit.

advice?

here they are. the first question makes me want to just cut/paste from some random essay i've written in classes in the past. is that okay?

1. The Admissions Committee is interested in gaining insight into you as a person. Type or Copy and Paste a brief essay on a subject outside of medicine, which has been an area of great interest to you. Please limit your essay to 1 page (about 3,500 characters), and leave a blank line between paragraphs.

2. If you have had experience doing research or other scholarly work, please describe your experience, including the question you pursued and how you approached it, your results and interpretation of the results, and any thoughts about what this experience meant to you. Please limit your response to 1 page (about 3,500 characters), and leave a blank line between paragraphs.

Lol so i am not the only one who is putting off CASE and YALE. These are beasts!!! I think i'm skipping Yale and will do case, a quick 3-4 paragraphs, this week.

UCSD is a killer too.. 2 page autobio. everything important in your life.

Well, at least there are still a lot of interview spots left at this point. 😳

I can already tell, however, that I'm going to be hating them more and more as that number drops and I'm still on hold! 🙁

Why not post #s of rejections and on holds too?!?

I'm sitting on Case, Duke, Hopkins, Loyola, Rosalind, Stanford, & UChicago.

If I don't finish Wake and Mich. St. by tomorrow (planning to) then I've missed the deadline.

Those case questions are killer!!

I still haven't done Georgetown (but I know what I am going to write - I just can't sit down and do it for some reasons), U Chicago because I HATE IT and Stony Brook, for the same reason. Man, those 2 are deadly.

Fortunately, my committee letter isn't ready yet, but it will be in a few days. I should probably do those... I hope to be done before school starts at least!

yeah, I really need to let Ros Franklin and Duke out the door, but I just can't get myself to do it.

what's the big deal with yale? It's just why you want to go there.

The only one I'm sitting on is Duke...Maybe I'll work on it this weekend before school starts. It just seems like a lot of work although I'm sure it's not THAT bad. Ugh..we'll see.

i despise rosalind franklins prompt so much.

I took a rather loose interpretation on the question, and wrote something that was meaningful to me, if not exactly on topic.

I figured it was better to have a quality essay about something than a bunch of BS about how I plan to synergize my future practice with "Life in Discovery" or something like that.

I just took a week off from secondaries because I was burnt . . . I'm working 2 jobs and volunteering, for a total of 70hrs/week and I just didn't have it in me. I'd rather they be a week later than early but crap. Also I have extremly fickle writer's block, I have to be in a particular mood to get the good creative juices flowing. This weekend I'm aiming to do Mt. Sinai and UCLA, and possibly UCONN. My husband is being a sweetheart and taking one of my shifts at the restaraunt so I can have two whole days to write!

i am PHYSICALLY SITTING on top of my secondaries...Now i feel justified to post here. but i still have stanford's in the figurative sense.

I've been waiting on Cincinnati's for a while now, since July 27th actually 😳 . I tried to work on it back then, but the webpage wasn't working right. Think it would still be worth it to submit it?

I've had Maryland's since the first week of August too, but their essays are tough.

I decided not to submit Boston (because I would have no chance), Brown (same reason), UIC because I don't think I've taken enough english classes, plus Rush, Wright state and Wayne state because I'm out of state. I probably won't submit Connecticut's either, as I'm out of state.

I've had Georgetown's since 7/7, but that's another story. 🙂

im sitting on FIVE!!!
by the way, all the ppl getting UC secs...do you have to go yourself to check if you have been invited to fill one out??

are you informed via email?
