Anyone else sitting with 0 interviews?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Schools have only had your app for a month and it's early October. No need to worry yet.

Complete late August at most schools and 0 interviews. No rejections either so I have my hopes up.

Heh. I'm still trying to finish my remaining secondaries!

That and an LoR possibly being lost in mail probably doesn't help either...

It seems like all the interview slots are filling up though. Like spots only open from Jan and on...

I can assure you there are schools with IIs still in October. I just got an II last week (albeit DO, not MD), that had available slots in the middle of October.

Again, no need to start worrying if you were complete at the beginning of September.

this thread makes me feel better, I was hoping someone would post one, actually. My stats are 3.72/29 and I like to think I have pretty good EC's. I have 0 IIs and getting more stressed out about it every day. I was complete at some of my schools in early august (but didnt get my MCAT scores til the tail end of august) and I submitted some other secondaries this past week. Hoping that october brings some good news. . .

I think that currently a lot of super applicants each have 10+ interviews, and many of them are scheduled after October 15th. I predict a massive flurry of interview invites after October 15th when people get accepted and drop all their interviews.

I hope this is the case for those awaiting interviews! @Goro recently said that most schools have already given out 2/3 of their interviews. 🙁

Waiting, waiting, waiting. I'm not discouraged, but will those secondaries become silent rejections? ~72 - 74

Silent rejections strike me as so rude. I finally got my first rejection last week, and it was literally a relief (likely because it was a reach anyway). I just wanted to hear SOMEthing after >1 month of dead silence.

Aww its so cute watching the premeds worry about their interviews, most of ya'll will have acceptances by May so chill. But the year you apply is a roller coaster of emotions so get prepared 🙂

Lol I always peep you commenting on these threads...thanks for the reassurance!

This year is exceptional though with people trying to apply before the new MCAT. Most schools have already surpassed the number of applicants they had last year. At one school I interviewed at in early September, they already had as many applicants as they had all of last year. AMCAS has been really fast verifying apps, too. I think a lot of good candidates are going to slip through the cracks this year.

I am one of those who is still sitting at 0 interviews as of today. Coming to this thread, I was hoping to find some solace in knowing others who are in the same boat. But comments like these "I think a log of good candidates are going to slip through the cracks this year" and "more than 2/3 of the interview slots have been given" are really depressing. Is this cycle done for me?

I was in a similar boat (except the school that rejected me was a great match and not a reach 🙁), but once the 2nd rejection hits and you still have no IIs and no other correspondence, you start to prefer the silence.

That would kind of suck to get an interview invite for like, 2 weeks from now bc applicants are dropping out and schools want to fill their day...

I feel there should be no rush for adcoms who interview until March/April to give out interviews. As someone said, the # of applicants this year is unprecedented due to the new mcat, faster AMCAS processing, etc. If anything, I would think the standard for an II would be raised. I really hope the schools I applied to are not saying "Oh Hey! Let's quickly fill up our II quota and then if we have time hand out IIs for the wait-list." If med schools have a standard for II then they should apply that standard regardless of app timeline. But, the other side of the argument could be standards disrupt the "holistic" process. Early on med schools have the luxury to "gamble" with applicants with stats less than those of their median class profile. As II slots start to dwindle, stats play more of a role, hence less likely for the average joe to get an II. Just my two cents.

p.s. if any of you 0 interviewees receive an interview, share it here. 😀

Soooo basically those of us with avergqe stats should quit? -__-

0 interviews here too. LizzyM ~68-70 so I thought I was fairly competitive. I'm starting to get worried. I just keep telling myself it's early.
I'm sure you know this, but just for other readers' sakes, competitiveness is relative. One can have stats more than good enough to signal that you can handle med school academically, but if you don't apply places where your qualifications are at least equivalent to those who are normally accepted you'll be toast. This goes even up to the very top.

@gettheleadout

What's your take on this logic?
Has this been the case in previous cycles?

That's fairly standard practice. Schedule your more "undesirable" interviews further away from when you expect to hear from potential acceptances, that way they can be easily canceled if you get an acceptance to somewhere you know you'd pick over said school(s).

It makes sense. Its just, my thoughts are: do medical schools anticipate this and adjust accordingly beforehand (by giving out more interviews to begin with)?

And, therefore wouldn't be "a massive flurry" per Se. More like a handful of apps that were put on hold for interview consideration.

I'm being optimistic. I just like to think of all possibilities lol.

Bump. From what I've been hearing, there's a good chance another big round of IIs will come around October 15th. Has anybody else been hearing this?

I feel the pain of everybody who has zero IIs at this point. I only have 2 myself (I know it's better than none, but when some people I know personally already have 12+, it still causes worry).

lol I meant the guy you quoted. I doubt he honestly thinks that 1) boatloads of people get admitted on the 15th and 2) people just dump interviews right then and there.

Ah ok. Your comment was vague. Gotcha.

Received 1 interview (OOS top 25) at the beginning of last month out of the 16 schools I applied to. To be fair my list was somewhat top-heavy. But I have gotten nothing else back... Anyone else heard of people getting multiple interviews starting this late in the game? I haven't heard back from any of my state schools either..

...it's October...? Late in the game if you haven't sent out your applications. I understand many interview seats are filling/have been filled (some schools only about 1/4-1/3 left)...but most schools interview until February/March.

Eerily similar to you except 0 IIs. I applied to 17 and most are up there but it's because I want to stay in the northeast region.

I wonder what a school will think if you let them know that you will attend any one of their interviews, even if it is a couple days before the interview is supposed to take place...

This silence got me like...
