Hi all,

MSIII here, Cali. I am so annoyed right now. I put it in my work, have never failed an NBME, and straight up failed the OB shelf. Wow. Right now, I'm on neuro and I can't even focus straight. I keep looking back to my stupid OB rotation and wondering where I went wrong. And now I have to sit and worry about passing it again otherwise I'm screwed.

I did UWISE X2 and sorta did casefiles. Not a lot but I still presumed it was enough to at least pass! I understood all basic concepts, etc on the wards so again I have no idea.

Its tough b/c OB is unrelated to anything so I can't assess how I'll do based on any prior NBME. Anyone been in my shoes? Or can anyone say something magical to lift me up and drive me?

Much appreciated,
bnb 🙁

You were right. OB is unlike anything else.

But if I understand you, all you did to study was some questions, and sort of skimed through a really small review book. That might be good on something like FM, where you are learning about the same diseases from the first 2 years of school. But OB isn't anything like learning about asthma.

If I were you, I'd try to read through one of the smaller OB textbooks.

Sorry you had a tough time with the shelf.

I'd recommend blueprints for OB/GYN

I read Case Files x 2-3, took notes from it, and read that one once through, too.
Also, did UW Q's, and some UWise Qs too (didnt do all of UWise). I do recall going through some PreTest before giving it up for mainly UW.

Received my 2nd highest on a shelf, highest was IM (both >90).

You're a f*cking tool. How is this egocentric intellectual masturbation at all related to the OP's situation?

As for the topic at hand, I agree with pretty much everyone else in this thread. A more thorough textbook, such as Blueprints, may be of some benefit and help you solidify most concepts that are tested on the shelf. Good luck!

awesome, alright thanks guys. I think I'm going to memorize the hell out of blueprints after my I'm done with a run through of casefiles.

I'm just so down right now...I've never failed anything before. UGH!

I think FA is the best review book for OB (and pretty much every other shelf) although blueprints isn't bad for the wards.

FA for OB/Gyn or FA for Step 2CK? I'm guessing the former but I know some people suggested for the Peds shelf to use the latter so just wanted to check...

His reply was totally related.

The OP failed, and the reply given, while certainly an opportunity to boast, was actually consistent with all advice I'd heard about studying for the Ob/Gyn shelf. Furthermore, his post HAS to be uplifting.

Think about it -- now the OP knows all he has to do to pass the Ob/Gyn shelf is read a review book (I know -- Case Files is so long, it takes almost a week to read if you put in 3 hours a night) and do a set of questions.

The OP should be ELATED after reading that post.

The real question I have is how, after half a year of clinical rotations, the OP thinks that you can fly into a shelf without even reading a review book.

just took the ob/gyn shelf the 1st time. it wasnt easy but wasnt hard etiher. The orignal post said he did uwse 2x and some case files. Those arent enough. Things i did to included books and material to learn the material so i would pass the exam.

things i did from recoommended book list, no required readings from my school:
OB/GYN Beckman book 1x
Blueprints 5th edition 1x
Casefiles 1x
Uworld 1x
Uwise 1x
Blueprints Qs in back 1x
Firstaid for OB/GYN 2x
*FA for OB, not Step 2

i think i passed. i'll have results later. if i didnt pass, it means i didnt learn enough material.
