I know it's a major disadvantage to get your application in late. My mother had some major health issues and caused me to put off the MCAT until last month. I went ahead and applied knowing that my chances were slim, but was wondering if anyone got interviews, acceptances this late.

I certainly hope so!! I'm in the late applicant boat as well (due my own naivety, though). I wouldn't mind hearing some reassuring stories either (no lectures please! I've already beat myself up enough!)

I'm in the same situation. My MCAT score comes out today. Anyway, I have a couple of friends who have been successful with a late application so it is definitely possible.

Take this to be completely anecdotal, but I think applying late hurts you if your numbers aren't great. If you wing a 45 on the MCAT, you'll probably be successful somewhere if you apply on the last day of the cycle.

Also, I think many D.O. schools are more forgiving towards applying late.

The bottom line is, as long as you haven't missed the deadline, you should apply. The worst they can do is tell you "no".

I took the MCAT August 2006 and got the results in mid-October. I was accepted to a school I applied to on its deadline of Nov 15. My MCAT was low 30s and GPA 3.9+.

Last year I applied "late" as in only a month early for deadlines. I didn't get an interview anywhere. Of course, I was also applying to only really good schools because I didn't quite get how competitive it was going to be!

This year I applied early, sending out my primaries in July and most of my secondaries in August. I've gotten two interview invitations, both from schools that wouldn't give me the time of day last year.

I would say, apply anyway. You're different from me and maybe you have a better chance. But think hard about where you want to apply. Would you rather go to a less good school next year or one of your top choices in 2009?

As much as I hate that it's an issue, it really is.

I submitted my AACOMAS, around November, I think, and I received three interviews and two acceptances. It's possible, OP, but I wouldn't recommend it, particularly if you aren't a strong applicant. I think I was fairly lucky and found a great school.

The way I see it, if it isn't as optimal as you can get it, perhaps waiting until next cycle would be better. I believe in applying when you are in your strongest position, to optimize chance and choices. The application process is something you don't want to have to do more than once.

Anyway, you've already applied, so there's no point in discussing it further. Just get on the ball and get going. Be very quick with everything. Good luck.
